We Tested DAYANG DY200-6 Highland Here Is What We Found
As the saying goes, “practice is the only criterion to test truth”. Recently, Dayang, together with a professional test ride team, tested DY200-6 (coming in August) on the Western Sichuan Plateau. Let’s see the truth about DY200-6 from this highland test ride.
Mainstream configuration, optional ABS and aluminium alloy three boxes
The two tested motorcycles are both equipped with three boxes (optional), with bar protectors, presenting a visual effect of a large ADV.
The “bird beak” front face with LED headlight shows a sharp modeling. The original two-section windscreen is adjustable with good windproof effect.
The full LCD instrument panel clearly shows gear position, total distance, rev, and other common information. A USB charging port is designed beside the meter.
It has front and rear disc brakes, with front double piston calipers; ABS is optional. The shock absorbers, front inverted and rear central types, are provided by Yu’an.
The original front shock absorber protection plate is of great practical use, which can prevent accidental shock absorber damage, prevent muddy water erosion and extend shock absorber’s service life.
The tire specifications are 110/70-17 and 140/70-17: aluminum alloy wheel hub with vacuum tire. The body is designed with guard bars, which effectively protected the motorcycle when it fell over on the spot during the test.
The aluminum alloy three boxes are optional. The tail box can hold a full-face helmet. For the passenger’s comfort, the tail box provides a soft backrest.
The exhaust pipe does not affect the space of side box. The tailor-made side box bracket fits the body compactly, and the width of side box is almost the same as the handlebar, which ensures good passability.
DY200-6 is ahead of most models of the same class in terms of configuration. In addition to the mainstream configuration such as LED lights, LCD screen, front and rear disc brakes, it also provides optional aluminum alloy three boxes and ABS.
Water-cooled engine, small vibration, low oil consumption
DY200-6 is deployed with a water-cooled four-valve and SOHC single-cylinder engine independently developed by Dayang, with a built-in balance shaft. The actual displacement is 189cc; the maximum power is 12.2kw/8,000rpm, and the maximum torque is 15.8N·m/6,000rpm. It is matched with an international 6-speed transmission, and a Yeson EFI system. This system has been tested in the Qilian Mountains. The main purpose of this highland test is to re-examine the performance of DAYANGEFI system on a highland, such as cold start and power response on the plateau.
The engine made a good first impression. The power output is smooth and the throttle responds positively. The SOHC four-valve distribution structure not only guarantees power output at low rev, but also delivers proper power performance at medium and high rev. There is no feeling of low rotation weakness and unsmoothness of DOHC. At the same time, due to the addition of the balance shaft, the engine’s vibration is minimal.
When climbing on the plateau, basically the riders were riding in a low gear with full throttle, and the engine speed was often kept at around 8,000rpm. The vibration control was still ideal. The engine runs well, with light throttle, clear gear shifting and light clutch.
The fuel tank has a capacity of 13L, and a full tank can support a range of 430km. The actual fuel consumption of 100km was about 3L. Though the actual fuel consumption varies with different riders and environments, the full fuel tank range can surely exceed 400km.
Flexible handling, suitable for multiple road conditions
DY200-6 has a curb weight of 157kg and a seat height of 775mm. The body weight and seat height are very suitable for most riders, which greatly reduces riding difficulty. Besides, it is designed with good ergonomics that adds to long-distance comfort.
The 170mm ground clearance guarantees proper passing performance, which meets the requirements of riding in various road conditions.
DY200-6 is competent for most road conditions during long distance motorcycle tours due to its light body, flexible handling, and pleasing engine performance. It is acceptable for both green hands and veterans.
If encountered with soft earth road on the hillside, where there is no roadside railing, a large or medium-sized ADV may be riskier. Instead, a smaller ADV like DY200-6 is more suitable for this situation.
DY200-6’s travel system also performs well. The shock absorbers are adjusted for multiple road conditions in the factory, featuring small vibration, good filtering effect, and shock absorbing capability at bumpy road sections.
The braking handling is comfortable. The tires have good road holding ability. Thus, coupled with the capable shock absorbers, the motorcycle demonstrates a good riding quality on various road surfaces.
To conclude
DAYANGsets sail again taking the National IV emission standards as a new starting point. The light and small displacement ADV DY200-6 will become an ideal motorcycle travel tool for motorcyclists. (Source: WeChat: dayangmotorcycle)
