In July, China’s motorcycle industry recorded year-on-year and month-on-month growth in both production and sales, while exports maintained strong growth momentum and the domestic market showed a modest recovery. From January to July, exports remained a major driver of industry growth. Overall production and sales continued to expand, the shift toward higher-end products deepened, and China’s consumer demand gradually improved, keeping the industry on a broadly positive trajectory.

Production and Sales Performance

In July, the industry produced and sold 1.9384 million and 1.8996 million fuel-powered motorcycles, respectively, representing month-on-month increases of 5.13% and 2.97%, and year-on-year increases of 22.32% and 18.85%. According to incomplete statistics from the industry association, electric motorcycles recorded production of 331,100 units and sales of 321,200 units, with production and sales down 21.21% and 20.87% month-on-month, but up 10.37% and 9.50% year-on-year.

Total motorcycle production and sales in July reached 2.2696 million and 2.2208 million units, respectively. Production increased 0.24% month-on-month, while sales declined 1.33%, with year-on-year growth of 20.42% and 17.40%. China’s motorcycle sales totaled 801,200 units, down 8.15% month-on-month but up 7.60% year-on-year. China’s sales of fuel-powered motorcycles reached 484,900 units, increasing 0.79% month-on-month and 6.03% year-on-year.

Among them, two-wheel motorcycles accounted for 2.0373 million units of production and 1.9909 million units of sales, up 0.18% and down 1.29% month-on-month, respectively, while increasing 22.83% and 19.40% year-on-year. Motorcycles with engine displacements above 250cc recorded production of 104,900 units and sales of 100,900 units, down 5.41% and 11.02% month-on-month, but up 15.14% and 14.27% year-on-year. Three-wheel motorcycles recorded production of 232,300 units and sales of 230,000 units representing month-on-month changes of +0.74% and -1.66%, and year-on-year increases of 2.76% and 2.56%.

From January to July, the industry produced 12.079 million fuel-powered motorcycles and sold 12.0723 million units, up 13.89% and 13.41% year on year. Electric motorcycle production and sales reached 2.276 million and 2.217 million units, respectively, increasing 13.56% and 12.52% year on year. During the first seven months of the year, total motorcycle production and sales reached 14.355 million and 14.2897 million units, up 13.84% and 13.27% year on year. China’s sales of fuel-powered motorcycles totaled 3.1347 million units, an increase of 2.70% year on year, indicating a gradual improvement in the domestic market. Two-wheel motorcycle production and sales reached 12.7573 million and 12.6954 million units, up 15.51% and 14.93% year on year. Motorcycles with engine displacements above 250cc recorded production of 608,300 units and sales of 607,600 units, increasing 1.11% and 2.93%, respectively. Three-wheel motorcycle production and sales reached 1.5977 million and 1.5943 million units, up 2.07% and 1.57% year on year.

From January to July, the top ten fuel-powered motorcycle manufacturers (groups) by sales volume were Dachangjiang(1,862,700 units), Loncin(867,800 units), Tayo(848,400 units), Zongshen(774,300 units), Yinxiang(713,400 units), Sundiro-Honda(649,900 units), Haojin(514,300 units), Wuyang-Honda(413,000 units), Dayang(396,500 units), and Jiangmen Summit(318,800 units). Together, these ten companies sold 7.359 million motorcycles, accounting for 60.96% of total fuel-powered motorcycle sales.

Export Performance

In July, motorcycle exports reached 1.4196 million units, increasing 3.42% month-on-month and 23.76% year-on-year. Export value totaled US$1.023 billion, increasing 2.18% month on month and 33.36% year on year. Two-wheel motorcycle exports reached 1.364 million units, up 3.66% month on month and 25.51% year on year. Three-wheel motorcycle exports totaled 55,600 units, down 2.22% month on month and 7.74% year on year.

From January to July, total export value of products from motorcycle manufacturers reached US$7.845 billion, up 25.20% year on year. Complete motorcycle exports totaled 8.9895 million units, an increase of 18.02%, with export value reaching US$6.197 billion, up 22.90%. Motorcycle engine exports totaled 614,500 units, down 19.04% year on year, with export value falling 16.29% to US$128 million. ATV exports reached 358,300 units, up 30.29% year on year, while export value surged 62.13% to US$1.286 billion. Motorcycle parts exports generated US$233 million, down 15.79% year on year.

From January to July, the top 10 companies ranked by motorcycle export value were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Tayo, Yinxiang, Sundiro-Honda, Zongshen, CFMOTO, Haojin, QJMOTOR, and SYM. These 10 companies generated a combined motorcycle export value of USD 4.015 billion, accounting for 64.79% of total motorcycle export value.

In terms of export volume, the top 10 companies were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Tayo, Yinxiang, Haojin, Zongshen, Sundiro-Honda, Jiangmen Summit, LIFAN, and Tianma. These companies exported a combined 5.565 million motorcycles, accounting for 61.91% of total motorcycle exports.
