In March, China’s motorcycle production and sales increased month-on-month and decreased year-on-year. In the first quarter, driven by exports, the production and sales of fuel motorcycles grew significantly, with the recoverable Chinese market, the upturn in domestic sales, the increasing foreign trade exports, and the motorcycle industry kept a positive trend.

Production & Sales

In March, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 1,385,700 and 1,338,200 units respectively, a month-on-month increase of 79.86% and 62.91%, and a year-on-year increase of  5.96% and 1.73%. The production and sales of electric motorcycles were 340,800 and 334,800 units respectively, a month-on-month increase of 174.32% and 171.47%, and a year-on-year decrease of 60.4% and 53.01%. The entire industry produced and sold a total of 1,726,500 and 1,673,000 motorcycles respectively in March, a month-on-month increase of 92.98% and 77.08%, and a year-on-year decrease of 20.66% and 17.5%. Among them,The production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles are 1,483,300 units and 1,429,300 units respectively in February, a month-on-month increase of 89.86% and 72.57%, and a year-on-year decrease of 23.61% and 20.3%. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) produced and sold 57,000 and 52,300 units, a month-on-month increase of 218.44% in production and 112.6% in sales, and a year-on-year increase of 44.3% in production and 34.79% in sales. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 243,200 units and 243,700 units respectively, a month-on-month increase of 114.44% and a 109.19%, and a year-on-year increase of 3.75% and 3.89%.

In the first quarter, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 3.4853 million and 3.5053 million units, a year-on-year increase of 10.6% and 9.68%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 692,100 and 677,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 62.43% and 59.34%. In the First Quarter, the total production and sales were 4.1774 million and 4.1823 million, down 16.34% and 13.97% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 3.635 million and 3.6356 million, down 18.03% and 15.35% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) were114,200 and 115,500, up 10.87% and 5.87% year-on-year, respectively. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 542,400 and 546,700 units, a year-on-year decrease of 2.95% and 3.48%.

In the first quarter, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang (426,000 units), Loncin (332,200 units), Zongshen (210,800 units), Yinxiang(175,600 units),Tayo (152,100 units), Sundiro-Honda(149,000 units), Luoyang Northern Group(141,800units),  Wuyang-Honda (133,500 units), HAOJIN (127,300 units), and DAYUN (110,100 units).

In the first quarter, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea (306,600 units), Zongshen (94,000 units), Luyuan (69,300 units), Sunra(48,000 units), Huaihai(41,100 units), Bus New Energy (34,600 units), Wuxing (14,900 units), Tailg (14,000 units), Loncin (12,200 units), and Jinyi (12,200 units).

Export Situation

In March, China’s motorcycle foreign trade exports improved month by month, with significant year-on-year and month on month growth in export volume. In the first quarter, the cumulative export volume increased significantly, and China’s motorcycle foreign trade continued to grow.

In March, 841,000 motorcycles were exported, a month-on-month increase of 56.51% and a year-on-year increase of 18.06%; the export value was US$534 million, a month-on-month increase of 51.8% and a year-on-year increase of 11.41%. Among them, 799,200 two-wheeled motorcycles were exported, an increase of 55.88% month-on-month and an increase 19.07% year-on-year; 41,900 three-wheeled motorcycles were exported, an increase of 69.62% month-on-month and 1.6% year-on-year.

In the first quarter, the total export volume of motorcycle manufacturers was US$1.877 billion, a year-on-year increase of 24.03%. The export volume of complete vehicles was 2.2945 million units, a year-on-year increase of 36.17%, and the export value was US$ 1.48 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.87%. Motorcycle engine exports were 272,200 units, a year-on-year increase of 28.84%, and the export value was US$ 63 million, a year-on-year increase of 20.89%. The export volume of ATVs was 93,700 units, a year-on-year increase of 17.09%, and the export value was US$249 million, a year-on-year increase of 12.32%. The export value of motorcycle parts was US$ 85 million, a year-on-year increase of 16.66%.

In the first quarter, the top 10 motorcycle exporting companies were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Yinxiang, Tayo, Haojin, Zongshen, SUMMIT MOTOR, Sundiro-Honda, QJMOTOR and Guangzhou Tianma. The above 10 companies exported a total of 1,362,600 units, accounting for 59.38% of total motorcycle exports.
