China’s Motorcycle Industry in August: Improved Exports , Recovering Domestic Market
According to statistics from the China Chamber of Commerce for Motorcycle (CCCM), China’s motorcycle production and sales increased month-on-month and year-on-year in August. China’s motorcycle sales have increased month-on-month, and there is a obvious growth in export due to a low base in the same period last year.
From January to August, fuel motorcycle exports increased and domestic sales slowed down in the second half of the year, and more promotional activities were launched by enterprises to improve the market ,and fuel motorcycles overall maintained stable operation.
Production & Sales
In August, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 1.2947 million and 1.2835 million units, a month-on-month increase of 0.73% and 1.27%, and a year-on-year increase of 22.74% and 14.29%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 438,500 and 437,000 units, output increased by 10.66% and 17.5% month-on-month, and decreased by 41.92% and 43.88% year-on-year. The entire industry produced and sold a total of 1.7332 million and 1.7204 million motorcycles in August,a month-on-month increase of 3.07% and 4.95%, and a year-on-year decrease of 4.23% and 9.53%. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) produced and sold 50,100 and 47,600 units, a month-on-month decrease of 7.39% and a 10.52% decrease, and a year-on-year decrease of 23.51% and 31.9%.
From January to August, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 9.5162 million and 9.5399 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.53% and 1.18%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 3.8448 million and 3.4588 million units, a year-on-year decrease. 26.83% and 34.62%. From January to August, the entire industry produced and sold a total of 13.361 million and 12.9987 million motorcycles, down 8.08% and 11.68% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 11.8261 million and 11.4586 million, down 9.3% and 13.22% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) were 351,900 and 358,400, down 7.47% and 8.31% year-on-year, respectively. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 1.5349 million and 1.5401 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.49% and 1.7%.
From January to August, the production and sales of straddle motorcycles were 5.095 million and 5.1354 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 0.61% and 2.38%. The production and sales of scooters were 5.6637 million and 5.2524 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 17% and 23.98%. The production and sales of cubs were 1.0674 million vehicles and 1.0708 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 4.62% and 4.15%. Judging from the sales composition of models in two-wheeler, straddle, scooter and cub accounted for 44.82%, 45.84% and 9.34% respectively.
From January to August, the production and sales of 50CC models were 492,100 and 510,100 units, a year-on-year increase of 29.53% and 24%; the production and sales of 110CC models were 991,500 and 992,400 units, a year-on-year decrease of 2.53% and 5.65%; the production and sales of 125CC models were 3.2515 million and 3.2367 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 3.17% and 5.25%; the production and sales of 150CC models were 2.3875 million and 2.3899 million units, a year-on-year increase of 20.92% and 19.81%; the production and sales of 200CC models were 582,500 units and 580,100 units, a year-on-year increase of 5.44% and 0.8%. %; the production and sales of 250CC models were 319,500 and 323,300 units, with output falling by 4.01% and 3.19% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement motorcycles (displacement>250CC) were 351,900 units and 358,400 units, a year-on-year decrease of 7.47% and 8.31%.
From January to August, the production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 1.5324 million and 1.5377 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.41% and 1.63%. Among them, the production and sales of ordinary freight tricycles were 1.3208 million and 1.3209 million units, a year-on-year increase of 1.17% and 0.26%; the production and sales of ordinary passenger tricycles were 210,900 and 213,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 11.21% and 11.35%.
From January to August, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang (1.2679 million units), Loncin (772,900 units), Zongshen (557,600 units), Sundiro-Honda (514,100 units), Dayang (437,200 units), Wuyang-Honda (416,400 units), Tayo (380,300 units), Yinxiang (355,700 units), Dayun (326,100 units), and Qingqi Suzuki (300,700 units).
From January to August, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea (1.6422 million units), Luyuan (444,500 units), Tailg (402,100 units), Sunra (276,800 units), Zongshen (251,900 units), Huaihai (120,800 units), Bus New Energy (81,100 units), Jinyi (63,500 units), Lovol (41,300 units), and Loncin (31,500 units).
Export Situation
In August, China’s motorcycle exports increased month-on-month and year-on-year. In terms of August, export volume was at a relatively high level. The cumulative export volume from January to August were in a positive growth. On the one hand, there was an obvious decline in motorcycle exports in the second half of last year with a low base; on the other hand, China’s motorcycle exports have remained a stable operation under the a series of national policies to stabilize foreign trade.
In August, 770,700 motorcycles were exported, a month-on-month increase of 1.23% and a year-on-year increase of 28.45%; the export value was US$485 million, a month-on-month decrease of 4.34% and a year-on-year increase of 13.53%. Among them, 744,500 two-wheeled motorcycles were exported, an increase of 1.75% month-on-month and 30.81% year-on-year; 26,200 three-wheeled motorcycles were exported, a decrease of 11.66% month-on-month and 15.04% year-on-year.
From January to August, the total export volume of motorcycle manufacturers was US$4.618 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 2.44%, with the decline to narrow. The export volume of complete vehicles was 5.4261 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.64%, and the export value was US$3.676 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 0.37%. Motorcycle engine exports were 645,700 units, a year-on-year increase of 0.89%, and the export value was US$140 million, a year-on-year decrease of 4.37%. The export volume of ATVs was 241,100 units, a year-on-year decrease of 11.75%, and the export value was US$579 million, a year-on-year decrease of 14.3%. The export value of motorcycle parts was US$223 million, a year-on-year increase of 0.42%.
From January to August, the top six series in terms of export volume were 125CC , 150CC, 110CC, 200CC, 50CC and 250CC, with exports of 1.6647 million units, 1.5194 million units, 713,000 units, 461,400 units, 342,200 units and 206,400 units respectively. Compared with the same period last year, the 125 series decreased by 12.24% year-on-year, the 150 series increased by 18.22% year-on-year, the 110 series decreased by 2.46%, the 200 series increased by 7.94%, the 50 series increased by 50.61%, and the 250 series increased by 29.77%. From January to August, a total of 4.907 million units of the above six series were exported, accounting for 94.96% of the total export volume of two-wheeled motorcycles. The export of three-wheeled motorcycles was 258,800 units, a year-on-year decrease of 16.91%.
From January to August, the top 10 motorcycle exporting companies were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Tayo, Zongshen, Sundiro-Honda, Yinxiang, Haojin, Dayun, Lifan, and Sanyang. The above 10 companies exported a total of 3.1477 million units, accounting for 58.01% of total motorcycle exports.
Economic Benefits
According to data from January to July, compared with the same period last year, there was an increase in the total industrial output value, industrial sales output value and operating income of motorcycle manufacturers, and total profits and total profits and taxes increased significantly. (This month, some companies have adjusted the accounting standards of their benefit statements, and the benefit indicators this month are different from that last month)
The total industrial output value and industrial sales output value increased slightly year-on-year. From January to July, motorcycle manufacturing enterprises completed a total industrial output value of 70.670 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.69%; they completed an industrial sales output value of 70.533 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.64%; they completed industrial added value of 13.382 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.80%.
From January to July, motorcycle manufacturers achieved operating income of 75.547 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.34%; total profits of 6.168 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 43.53%; and total profits and taxes of 8.815 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50.93%.
From January to July, the operating costs of motorcycle manufacturers were 63.711 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 1.29%; taxes and surcharges were 1.787 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 134.95%; sales expenses were 1.890 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.17%; administrative expenses were 3.028 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.40%; R&D expenses were 2.305 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.57%; financial expenses were -13,800 yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 63.41%. The four expenses totaled 7.086 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.40%.
Notes receivable and accounts receivable were basically the same as last year. At the end of July, the notes and accounts receivable of motorcycle manufacturers were 17.979 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 5.98%; the inventory of finished products was 5.173 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.39%. At the end of July, notes receivable, accounts receivable and finished goods inventory totaled 23.151 billion yuan, accounting for 22.63% of total current assets, a year-on-year decrease of 2.87% .
