In December, China’s motorcycle industry recorded year-on-year and month-on-month growth on both the production and sales fronts, with foreign trade exports posting a notable increase and reaching a new monthly high for the year. Overall, the motorcycle industry concluded 2025 on a positive trajectory, characterized by stable growth in production and sales, improved quality and efficiency, and clearly optimized industrial structure. Throughout the year, foreign trade exports remained robust, while the domestic market recovered at a relatively slower pace. Meanwhile, the leisure and recreational large-displacement motorcycle segment continued to deliver strong growth, and electric motorcycles experienced a rebound-driven recovery.

Production and Sales Performance

In December, the industry produced and sold 1.6672 million and 1.6471 million gasoline motorcycles, up 9.65% and 11.94% month-on-month, and 8.07% and 10.3% year-on-year, respectively. Electric motorcycle production and sales reached 339,100 units and 304,200 units; production rose 7.02% month-on-month, while sales declined 1.7% month-on-month, but increased 24.24% and 14.74% year-on-year, respectively. Total motorcycle production and sales for the month amounted to 2.0063 million and 1.9513 million units, up 9.2% and 9.57% month-on-month, and 10.51% and 10.97% year-on-year. Domestic motorcycle sales totaled 713,200 units, up 5.06% month-on-month and 1.18% year-on-year. Domestic sales of gasoline motorcycles reached 417,200 units, up 10.62% month-on-month but down 6.51% year-on-year (note: domestic sales data for the previous month were adjusted).

By category, two-wheeled motorcycle production and sales stood at 1.756 million and 1.6936 million units, up 10.24% and 9.62% month-on-month, and 11.56% and 11.47% year-on-year. Large-displacement leisure and recreational motorcycles (above 250cc, excluding 250cc) recorded production and sales of 53,700 units and 68,900 units; production declined 20.09% month-on-month and 22.84% year-on-year, while sales increased 12.95% month-on-month and 1.92% year-on-year. Three-wheeled motorcycles posted production and sales of 250,300 units and 257,800 units, up 2.41% and 9.21% month-on-month, and 3.66% and 7.76% year-on-year.

From January to December, the industry produced and sold 18.4975 million and 18.4615 million gasoline motorcycles, up 11.65% and 12.16% year-on-year. Electric motorcycle production and sales reached 3.6118 million and 3.5062 million units, up 6.03% and 1.14% year-on-year. Total motorcycle production and sales for the year amounted to 22.1093 million and 21.9677 million units, up 10.69% and 10.25% year-on-year. Domestic motorcycle sales totaled 8.602 million units, down 3.45% year-on-year, while domestic sales of gasoline motorcycles fell 6.18% year-on-year to 5.1449 million units. Two-wheeled motorcycles accounted for 19.3105 million units in production and 19.1644 million units in sales, up 10.83% and 10.32% year-on-year. Large-displacement leisure and recreational motorcycles (above 250cc, excluding 250cc) posted production and sales of 953,700 units and 952,300 units, up 23.3% and 25.87% year-on-year. Three-wheeled motorcycles recorded production and sales of 2.7987 million and 2.8033 million units, up 9.73% and 9.75% year-on-year.

From January to December, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang(2,686,700 units), Loncin(1,578,300 units), Zongshen(1,139,200 units), Tayo(1,109,100 units), Sundiro-Honda(1,003,100 units), Haojin(736,600 units), Yinxiang(729,100 units), Dayang(610,200 units), Wuyang-Honda(594,800 units) and Jiangmen Summit(529,100 units).

From January to December, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea Group(921,100 units), Luyuan(591,500 units), Zongshen(465,100 units), Huaihai(344,900 units), CFMOTO(300,300 units), Jiangsu Sunra(262,900 units), Bus New Energy(206,900 units), Lovol(75,500 units), Loncin(66,900 units), and TAIGL(57,800 units).

Export Performance

In December, motorcycle exports totaled 1.2381 million units, up 12.34% month-on-month and 17.52% year-on-year. Export value reached USD 819 million, up 9.41% month-on-month and 17.05% year-on-year. Of this total, two-wheeled motorcycle exports accounted for 1.1768 million units, up 11.66% month-on-month and 19.67% year-on-year, while three-wheeled motorcycle exports stood at 61,300 units, up 27.26% month-on-month but down 12.64% year-on-year.

From January to December, the total export value of motorcycle manufacturers reached USD 10.937 billion, up 23.85% year-on-year. Complete vehicle exports totaled 13.3657 million units, up 21.33% year-on-year, with an export value of USD 8.85 billion, up 26.78%. Motorcycle engine exports reached 1.3209 million units, up 14.93% year-on-year, with an export value of USD 264 million, up 9.48%. All-terrain vehicle (ATV) exports totaled 475,500 units, down 2.43% year-on-year, while export value rose 15.39% year-on-year to USD 1.394 billion. Motorcycle parts exports amounted to USD 429 million, up 7.09% year-on-year.

From January to December, the top ten motorcycle exporters by volume were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Tayo, Yinxiang, Haojin, Zongshen, Sundiro-Honda, Jiangmen Summit, Lifan, and Bashan. These ten companies collectively exported 8.2125 million units, accounting for 61.44% of China’s total motorcycle exports.
