In January, China’s motorcycle industry achieved a solid start to 2026. Both production and sales recorded significant growth on a month-on-month and year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, foreign trade exports maintained the strong growth momentum seen last year, with monthly export volume reaching a new high in recent years.

Production and Sales Performance

In January, the industry produced and sold 1.6985 million and 1.7236 million fuel-powered motorcycles, up 1.88% and 3.97% month=on-month, and up 23.24% and 22.95% year-on-year, respectively. Electric motorcycles recorded production and sales of 306,100 and 281,500 units, down 9.74% and 7.45% month-on-month, but up 43.97% and 27.99% year-on-year. Total motorcycle production and sales reached 2.0046 million and 2.0051 million units. Production declined slightly by 0.08% month-on-month, while sales increased by 2.2% month-on-month. On a year-on-year basis, production and sales grew by 26.01% and 23.63%, respectively. Chinese motorcycle sales totaled 682,100 units, down 5.78% month-on-month but up 21.16% year-on-year. Of these, domestic sales of fuel-powered motorcycles reached 409,200 units, down 4.36% month-on-month and up 18.17% year-on-year.

Two-wheeled motorcycles accounted for production and sales of 1.7938 million and 1.7973 million units, up 2.15% and 5.46% month-on-month, and up 26.23% and 24.44% year-on-year. Large-displacement leisure motorcycles (above 250cc, excluding 250cc) recorded production and sales of 65,600 and 63,800 units. Production increased 22.16% month-on-month, while sales declined 7.4% month-on-month; on a year-on-year basis, they rose 2.02% and 8.32%, respectively.

In January, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang(294,400units), Tayo(107,700units), Yinxiang(105,800units), Loncin(104,100untis), Zongshen(99,400units), Sundiro-Honda(80,400units), Haojin(56,500units), Jiangmen Summit(56,400units), Dayang(50,400units) and Tianma(43,600units).

Export Performance

In January, China’s motorcycle exports continued the high-growth trend seen since last year. Both export volume and export value achieved double-digit growth month-on-month and year-on-year. Monthly export volume reached another historic high, marking a strong start for the industry’s export performance.

Motorcycle exports totaled 1.323 million units in January, up 6.86% month-on-month and 24.94% year-on-year. Export value reached USD 876 million, up 6.89% month-on-month and 31.28% year-on-year. Among them, two-wheel motorcycle exports amounted to 1.2633 million units, up 7.36% month-on-month and 25.24% year-on-year, while three-wheel motorcycle exports totaled 59,700 units, down 2.65% month-on-month and 19.03% year-on-year.

The top ten motorcycle exporters by volume in January were: Dachangjiang, Yinxiang, Loncin, Tayo, Zongshen, Jiangmen Summit, Haojin, Sundiro-Honda, Tianma and Bashan. Together, these ten companies exported 799,100 units, accounting for 60.4% of total motorcycle exports.
