Development of 2024 concept breaks cover in new design filings.

The electric ATV category is getting a little exciting. And a bit crowded.

Back in November 2024 Chinese manufacturing giant Loncin revealed its prototype X-Wolf EV10 electric ATV. After more than a year of silence, it appears to have taken a step closer to production with design images of an updated version appearing in new intellectual property filings from the brand.

The EV10’s initial specs looked impressive, boasting 2100Nm (1548 pounds feet) of torque distributed through all four wheels, paired with a 291-volt electrical system architecture and a 14.5kWh battery made of lightweight lithium ion pouch cells that could be fully charged in less than three hours. As with most EVs, these figures are eye-popping, but they reflect the “flat torque curve” of electric motors. It’s also possible that reduction gears could be involved. Regardless, while the EV10 prototype appeared at events since its initial unveiling, there’s been no further news about when to expect the production model.

Loncin’s new design patent shows a revised machine, listed simply as “Electric ATV”, that evolves the appearance of the original EV10 prototype—sharing the same overall look but differing in virtually every detail. At the front, the headlights follow the same shape as before, but the panel between them is slimmer, rising over the front bull bar. At the side, the seat and wheelbase appear longer than before but the overall shape of the tank and wheel arches is carried over. Moving to the rear, there’s a restyled set of tail lights, replacing the one-piece, full-width version on the original show model.

The wheels are new, too, with eight split spokes instead of the previous five. There is also the welcome addition of beadlocks in order to run lower tire pressures or help counter the electric motor’s extreme torque.

The color scheme of the original prototype is carried over to the new design, including the faux carbon section that runs from the front of the seat to the bars. The control layout is also the same, with a TFT screen on top of the bars, and the ignition and a rotary gear selector set into said carbon panel. The bars themselves are a conventional tubular design, held in place by a central clamp, where the original show bike had a more complex, cast aluminum setup.

Loncin might be a newcomer to the ATV and UTV business, but the company itself has a long track record. It sells motorcycles both under its own name and the Voge brand, which is used for higher-end models aimed at export markets. It also has a longstanding relationship with BMW, manufacturing single and twin-cylinder engines for many of the German brand’s motorcycles over the last 20-plus years.

This isn’t Loncin’s first foray into non-gas power. The company also developed a prototype ATV using a hydrogen fuel cell instead of batteries. Revealed in 2024, the machine promised specific power in excess of 1kW per lb. (2.2kW per kg) from its fuel cell, although the lack of a viable hydrogen infrastructure means fuel cells remain a niche alternative to more conventional battery-electric powertrains.
