RC401 Takes You onto the Landscape Road G318
If you have not started your journey onto the national highway G318, G318 will only exist in other people’s impression. I was the one who had not been to G318. My feeling about going to Tibet was mostly hearsay. It was necessary to see and feel for myself. The was a little sudden, without any careful planning. We have to admit that no matter how carefully prepared you will encounter something unexpected. The unknown is wonderful.
I do not like my travel to be just visiting scenic spots so that I can say I have been there, which skips the meaningful process.
Samuel Smiles said that only deep faith can inspire the nobility and greatness of the soul. Our deepest faith sustains us in the most dangerous circumstances; in the face of the most serious difficulties, it is faith that carries us to victory. We are all curious about things we do not know. As a non-believer of any religion, I have no idea of what it is like. But I still look forward to Lhasa.
Although the race-aping RC401 is not suitable for riding into Tibet, it does not mean that it is completely impossible. Some people have joked about the good waistline of riding an race-aping bike, which means such bikes are designed for special roads. Anyway, it’s people who decide. We can make the impossible become possible.
I was not so familiar with race-aping models, never onto the track, even without basic riding skills, but we had a veteran with us who had ridden to Tibet for many times. There were frequent twists and turns on the way. It was kind of forcing a donkey to dance to me.
The riding posture of RC401 was not so aggressive, so it was not as tired as expected. On the contrary, I began to have fun this race-aping bike. After two days, I had a new view on RC401. I used to think that the race-aping bikes had no other advantages except their sharp look. I admit that I was shallow.
It is worth talking about the handling of RC401. The engine tuning is inclined to the mid-to-high rev performance. I was used to riding bikes with better low-torque performance, so I often made the bike stall in the beginning. RC401 curve performance is very good, providing good tracking feedback. The handling is also very flexible. There were several times when I came across a big hole out of the corner, I was ready to feel the shock touch the ground, but it still avoided it, which is quite unexpected. RC401 also has good passing ability. It easily passed the bumpy roads on the way without generating serious vibration.
The rain on the way did not worry me at all, because the tyres showed good antiskid effect. However, when there was snow, it felt like your face was spread with a piece of cream cake, and you could not see anything.
We encountered two Tibetans who were making a pilgrimage to Lhasa. They walked all the way from Garzê and had already spent two months and 8 days on the way. Though it was a dusty long journey, there was no weariness on their faces. That was probably what it felt like to have faith.
I did not feel I had to reach Lhasa. I liked what we encountered on the way more than the destination. For most of the time, when we emphasize too much the result, we will miss the scenery along the way. Motorcycle traveling is about riding a comfortable motorcycle to meet new people and experience new things to have fun.
