SYM Motorcycle Joymax Has Been Upgraded
In April 2019, a big scooter JOYMAX Z 300 was launched, which was well received among numerous fans with its remarkable performance. In the second half of 2020, SYM made a number of upgrades to JOYMAX with the theme of “metamorphosis”.
The biggest change is in appearance. The front face completely overturns the previous design. The carbon-fiber front panel emphasizes the sports feature and visual impact. The new LED front dual headlights with gull-wing position lights provide a stronger feeling of aggression and enhance the sense of futurism and recognition. The side continues the characteristic body line, with extended and sharpened tail, looking more layered and agile.
It is equipped with a 278ml single-cylinder water-cooled four-valve engine and Siemens EFI, with a maximum power of 18kw/8,000rpm and a maximum torque of 24N·m/6,500rpm. The engine also uses SYM’s latest Clean Power technology, which is cleaner and more fuel efficient while providing a more delicate and linear power output curve.
The new JOYMAX has a number of equipment upgrades. The central control is upgraded to keyless starting system. The combined pointer and LCD dash is the same as the previous model, with the LCD upgraded to a color screen to improve recognition. In addition, a dust-proof rubber cover is added to the front shock absorber.
The new JOYMAX also adds a two-section adjustable waist cushion and inherits the two-section adjustable windshield, offering better adaptability for different users. However, the windshield and waist cushion need to be removed and reinstalled with tools for adjustment, which is not so convenient.
The new JOYMAX is also equipped with font four-piston radial calipers with a 260mm floating disc, and rear one-way double-piston calipers with a 240mm brake disc. Meanwhile, Bosch ABS is as standard matched for the front and rear wheels to further improve braking safety. It has a front vertical shock absorber and rear five-segment adjustable double shock absorbers. The tires are CST semi-hot melt tires (font 120/70-14 and rear 140/60-13).
The under-seat large space remains the same, which can hold two full-face helmets. The front right storage box has a 5V2A USB outlet inside.
From intuitive experience, the power output of JOYMAX is especially suitable for daily commuting and medium-short distance riding. There is a slight lag-behind during 0-30km/h, but power breaks out after 30km/h and continues until 110km/h. Acceleration decreases after 120km/h. Transmission performance is efficient. Due to JOYMAX’s light curb weight, riding it is flexible and easy. The comfort speed range is between 100km/h and 110km/h.
Wind resistance protection
JOYMAX’s windshield protection effect is good, but wind resistance protection for the legs is not as good as the windshield.
The braking effect of the new JOYMAX was a surprise. the new JOYMAX’s braking and tire performance are outstanding on slippery roads, and the mid-to-high speed baking performance and stability is also satisfactory.
The effective capacity of the fuel tank is 11L, the comprehensive fuel consumption is 4.2L/100km, and the effective endurance is about 250km.
The new JOYMAX has a wheelbase of 1,535mm. The short wheelbase gives flexibility but also reduces legroom, and the ride seat is not spacious enough, making it less comfortable for taller riders’ long-distance rides.
