TARO TR400 Officially Released
On May 17, TARO’s TR400 was finally revealed.
In 2019, TARO revealed its first big scooter Explorer 300, which took three years to build, breaking the situation where KYMCO and SYM dominated the 300cc scooter market for many years. Subsequently, a number of domestic big scooters were introduced, and the market became more competitive. In the meantime, TARO was developing its 400cc and several other power platforms.
Three years later TARO successfully developed the TR400. Although the appearance is almost the same as exposed earlier, it brings more stable quality.
A week before the launch event, test drivers rode two TR400 from Chongqing to Taizhou, with a total mileage of more than 2,000 kilometers, without any fault, which has proved again its stability.
TR400 is quite different from Explorer 300: the latter focuses on comfort and long-distance motorcycle travel, while TR400 is designed for daily commuting and medium-short distance riding, emphasizing handling and flexibility.
TR400’s actual displacement is 359cc.
It is still designed by the European team, with a compact body, hard lines and a strong European sports style to be highly recognizable.
The wheelbase is 1,540mm, the seat height is 730mm (that of higher seat version is 780mm), the curb weight is 186kg, and the minimum ground clearance is 165mm. The advantages of short wheelbase, low seat height and light body give it better motility and handling than an ordinary big scooter.
TR400 is equipped with the 359cc four-valve water-cooled engine independently developed by TARO in 3 years. The engine adopts ceramic alloy cylinders, which features high power, low fuel consumption and low vibration. To ensure the stability of the engine, TARO has tested it for 3 years. The peak power is 21kW/8,500rpm, peak torque is 26N·m/7,000rpm, and compression ratio is 11.5:1, matching with Delphi EFI.
The brake handlebar is adjustable. It has TIMSUN sports tires with stronger road holding and flexible performance at bends. In addition, it is equipped with an inverted front shock absorber from Yu’an. During the over 2,000 kilometers of test ride, the shock absorber system felt well-tuned to ensure handling and riding comfort.
The ABS can be turned off. It requires more of the rider’s skills when the ABS is off, but the riding may be more joyful.
The handlebar adopts heating plates with high electric heating conversion rate, with low power consumption. The blue backlight buttons are highly recognizable.
It has intelligent lock and key, with advanced encryption technology to ensure good anti-theft performance.
The adjustable windshield effectively resists the wind during ride, reduces the noise at high speed, and increases the riding stability at high speed.
TARO was originally a manufacturer of lights, meters and exterior parts, and is still one of the representative enterprises in this field. TR400 has highly recognizable quality LED lights.
The TFT LCD meter can be connected to the mobile phone. The backlight function of the handlebar buttons and the keyless starting system are basically the highest equipment for current 400cc scooters.
TR400’s price tag indicates that it may be the most cost-effective model among the 300cc-400cc scooters in the market.
