China’s Fuel Motorcycle in 2023: 3% Sales Increase & 9% Increase of Foreign Trade Exports
According to statistics of the China Motorcycle Chamber of Commerce (CCCM), sales of fuel motorcycles in China decreased month-on-month and increased year-on-year in December. Large-displacement leisure motorcycles increased significantly year-on-year, while electric motorcycles increased month-on-month and decreased year-on-year. Throughout the year, fuel motorcycles had a slightly increase in sales, Chinese market remained basically stable, foreign trade exports increased significantly, the product structure was optimized, and the export of large-displacement leisure motorcycles increased significantly. In 2023, the motorcycle industry maintained a stable and positive development trend.
Production & Sales
In December, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 1.1631 million and 1.1247 million units, a month-on-month increase of 0.21% and decrease of 2.3%, and a year-on-year increase of 3.39% in production and a year-on-year increase of 0.52% in sales. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 281,100 and 267,400 units, output increased by 5.56%and 8.93% month-on-month, and decreased by 44.83% and 49% year-on-year. The entire industry produced and sold a total of 1.4443 million and 1.3921 million motorcycles respectively in December,a month-on-month increase of 1.21% in production and a month-on-month decrease of 0.32% in sales, and a year-on-year decrease of 11.64% in production and 15.28% in sales. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) produced and sold 37,000 and 35,700 units, a month-on-month decrease of 2.37% in production and a month-on-month decrease of 2.27% in sales, and a year-on-year increase of 34.06% in production and 37.31% in sales.
From January to November, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 14.1513 million and 14.1801 million units, a year-on-year increase of 3.43% and 2.85%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 5.265 million and 4.8105 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 30.82% and 36.97%. From January to December, the entire industry produced and sold a total of 19.4163 million and 18.9907 million motorcycles, down 8.81% and 11.34% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 17.0227 million and 16.6001 million, down 10.46% and 13.23% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) were 511,800 and 525,400, down 7.13% and 5.06% year-on-year, respectively. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 2.3936 million and 2.3905 million units, a year-on-year increase of 4.93% and 4.46%.
From January to December, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang (1.8774 million units), Loncin (1.3352 units), Zongshen (855,400 units), Sundiro-Honda (761,300 units), Dayang (639,300 units), Wuyang-Honda (602,600 units), Tayo (578,800 units), Yinxiang (525,400 units), Dayun (490,300 units), and Qingqi Suzuki (402,300 units).
From January to November, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea (2.2186 million units), Luyuan (574,200 units), Tailg (554,200 units), Sunra (417,300 units), Zongshen (367,500 units), Huaihai (183,700 units), Bus New Energy (132,200 units), Jinyi (92,400 units), Lovol (61,700 units), and Loncin (48,500 units).
Export Situation
In December, China’s motorcycle exports dropped slightly month-on-month but increased significantly year-on-year. Throughout the year, China’s motorcycle foreign trade exports operated steadily, with the average monthly export volume around 700,000 units and the cumulative export volume exceeding 8.3 million units, a significant year-on-year increase.
In December, 738,000 motorcycles were exported, a month-on-month increase of 0.68% and a year-on-year increase of 15.53%; the export value was US$468 million, a month-on-month increase of 1.89% and a year-on-year increase of 13.12%. Among them, 688,100 two-wheeled motorcycles were exported, a decrease of 1.81% month-on-month and an increase 12.25% year-on-year; 49,900 three-wheeled motorcycles were exported, an increase of 18.07% month-on-month and 93.61% year-on-year.
From January to December, the total export volume of motorcycle manufacturers was US$6.881 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.05%. The export volume of complete vehicles was 8.3168 million units, a year-on-year increase of 8.79%, and the export value was US$5.465 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.19%. Motorcycle engine exports were 942,700 units, a year-on-year increase of 7.08%, and the export value was US$202 million, a year-on-year increase of 0.07%. The export volume of ATVs was 368,300 units, a year-on-year decrease of 8.26%, and the export value was US$871 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12.15%. The export value of motorcycle parts was US$343 million, a year-on-year increase of 7.29%.
From January to December, the top 10 motorcycle exporting companies were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Tayo, Zongshen, Yinxiang, Sundiro-Honda, Haojin, Lifan, Dayun, and Bashan. The above 10 companies exported a total of 4.93 million units, accounting for 59.28% of total motorcycle exports.
