In June, China’s motorcycle production and sales increased slightly month-on-month and year-on-year, with the rapid increasing foreign trade exports and the decreasing domestic sales, and the large-displacement motorcycles sales at a high momentum. From January to June, driven by exports, fuel motorcycles maintained a significant growth trend, with the optimized product structure, the declining domestic sales. Meanwhile, the large-displacement leisure and entertainment motorcycles increase rapidly in terms of sales, and the motorcycle industry has an obvious improvement.

Production & Sales

In June, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 1,483,700 and 1,490,000 units respectively, a month-on-month increase of 1.54% in production and a month-on-month increase of 2.89% in sales, and a year-on-year increase of 10.06% and 11.33%. The production and sales of electric motorcycles were 297,600 and 310,200 units respectively, a month-on-month decrease of 3.13% and 6.35%, and a year-on-year decrease of 12.23% in production and a year-on-year decrease of 2.91% in sales. The entire industry produced and sold a total of 1,781,300 and 1,800,200 motorcycles respectively in June, a month-on-month increase of 0.73% and 1.17%, and a year-on-year increase of 5.58% and 8.58%. The production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 1,590,400 and 1,609,000 respectively in June, a month-on-month increase of 1.81% and 2.48%, and a year-on-year increase of 5.29% and 8.58%. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) produced and sold 87,500 and 90,100 units, a month-on-month increase of 9.79% in production and 16.7% in sales, and a year-on-year increase of 86.57% in production and 97.16% in sales. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 190,900 and 191,200 respectively, a month-on-month decrease of 7.45% and 8.62%, and a year-on-year increase of 8.05% and 5.62%.

From January to June, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 7.8964 million and 7.8837 million units, a year-on-year increase of 11.29% and 10.27%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 1.5951 million and 1.6328 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 47.01% and 38.39%. From January to June, the total production and sales of motorcycles were 9.4916 million and 9.5165 million, down 6.07% and 2.89% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 8.326 million and 8.3449 million, down 7.08% and 3.49% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) were 352,700 and 355,500, up 41.93% and 37.84% year-on-year, respectively. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 1,165,500 and 1,171,600 units, a year-on-year increase of 1.79% and 1.63%.

From January to June, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Zongshen, Tayo, Yinxiang, Sundiro-Honda, Luoyang Northern Group, Haojin, Wuyang-Honda, and Summit Motor. 10 companies mentioned above sold a total of 4,381,700 motorcycles, accounting for 55.58% of the total sales of motorcycles.

From January to May, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea (593,600 units), Zongshen (185,000 units), Luyuan (135,600 units), Sunra (94,700 units), Huaihai (79,100 units), Bus New Energy (58,900 units), Wuxing (27,400 units), Tailg (24,300 units),  Loncin (22,300 units), and  Jinyi (21,800 units).

Export Situation

In June, motorcycle exports were 990,600 units, an increase of 5.03% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 19.41%. The export value was US$630 million, an increase of 1.74% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 14.02%. Among them, the export of two-wheeled motorcycles was 950,400 units, an increase of 4.86% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 19.36%. The export of three-wheeled motorcycles was 40,200 units, an increase of 9.24% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 20.49%.

From January to June, the total export volume of motorcycle manufacturers was US$4.182 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.76%. The export volume of complete vehicles was 5.1509 million units, a year-on-year increase of 27.69%, and the export value was US$ 3.31 billion, a year-on-year increase of 20.15%. Motorcycle engine exports were 586,900 units, a year-on-year increase of 11.74%, and the export value was US$ 127 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.71%. The export volume of ATVs was 227,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 35.22%, and the export value was US$558 million, a year-on-year increase of 30.53%. The export value of motorcycle parts was US$ 187 million, a year-on-year increase of 13.37%.

From January to June, the top 10 motorcycle exporting companies were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Tayo, Yinxiang, Haojin, Zongshen, Summit Motor, Sundiro-Honda, DAYUN and Lifan. The above 10 companies exported a total of 3.0383 million units, accounting for 58.99% of total motorcycle exports.
