China’s Motorcycle Industry Recovered Slowly with Reduction of Foreign Trade Export in August
In August, there was a decline in the production and sales volume of China’s motorcycle industry because of the insufficient overseas and domestic demand. with increasing for three consecutive months, and the year-on-year decline further narrowed. In terms of the different models, the decline of traditional small and medium-displacement products is particularly obvious. 250cc and above leisure and entertainment motorcycles maintained rapid growth.
Production & sales
In August, the production and sales of the whole industry were 1,801,900 units and 1,894,900 units, with a month-on-month decrease of 15.98% and 8.17%, and a year-on-year decrease of 18.48% and 14.52%. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 1,611,000 units and 1,704,500 units, with a month-on-month decrease of 17.5% and 8.71%, and a year-on-year decrease of 19.71% and 15.45%. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 191,900 units and 190,400 units, down 0.46% and 2.98% month-on-month, and down 6.44% and 5.2% year-on-year. The production and sales of fuel motorcycles were 1,046,900 and 1,116,400 units, with a month-on-month decrease of 20.17% and 14.02%, and a year-on-year decrease of 24.66% and 17.47%. The production and sales of electric motorcycles were 755,000 units and 778,600 units, with the production decreasing by 9.37% and the sales decreasing by 1.78%, production and sales decreased by 8.01% and 9.92% year-on-year.
From January to August, the production and sales of the whole industry were 14,531,300 units and 14,711,600 units. The production and sales decreased by 14.02% and 12.94% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheel motorcycles were 13,031,700 units and 13,197,300 units, down 14.57% and 13.54% year-on-year; the production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 1,497,600 units and 1,514,400 units, down 8.88% and 7.29% year-on-year; the production and sales of fuel motorcycles were 9,276,800 and 9,421,700 units, down 14.33% and 12.95% year-on-year; the production and sales of electric motorcycles were 5,254,600 and 5,289,900 units, down 13.47% and 12.91% year-on-year.
From January to August, the production and sales of standard bikes were 5,126,000 units and 5,260,700 units, down 14.35% and 11.5% year-on-year; the production and sales of scooters were 6,819,100 units and 6,902,300 units, down 11.85% and 11.34% year-on-year; the production and sales of cubs were 1,020,200 units and 1,028,200 units, down33.52% and 32.95% year-on-year. In terms of the proportion of the sales of each type in the total sales of two-wheelers, the standard, scooter and cub models accounted for 39.86%, 52.3% and 7.79%, respectively.
From January to August, the production and sales of 50cc series were 379,900 units and 411,400 units, down 35.35% and 29.51% year-on-year; the production and sales of 110cc series were 1,014,100 units and 1,051,800 units, down 27.74% and 23.66% year-on-year; the production and sales of 125cc series were 3,349,500 units and 3,409,300 units, down 10.34%and 8.95% year-on-year; the production and sales of 150cc series were 1,974,500 units and 1,994,700 units, down 16.82% and 15.73% year-on-year; the production and sales of 250cc series reached 889,000 units and 909,400 units, down 22.14% and 21.72% year-on-year. The production and sales of large displacement motorcycles above 250cc were 380,300 units and 390,900 units, with year-on-year growth of 58.79% and 60.6%.
From January to August, the production and sales of regular three-wheeled motorcycles were 1,497,600 units and 1,514,400 units, down 8.88% and 7.29% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of general freight tricycles were 1,188,500 units and 1,204,100 unit, down 16.67% and 14.86% year-on-year; the production and sales of general passenger tricycles were 306,600 units and 307,700 units, with year-on-year growth of 43.95% and 43%.
From January to August, the top ten enterprises (groups) in sales of fuel motorcycles were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Zongshen, Sundiro Honda, Wuyang-Honda, Luoyang Northern EK Chor, Dechengwei , Dayun, Tayo, and Qingqi Suzuki, which sold 1,307,200 units, 795,300 units, 618,100 units, 608,500 units, 460,700 units, 415,300 units, 414,900 units, 347,000 units, 298,500 units and 285,000 units, respectively.
From January to August, the top ten enterprises (groups) in sales of electric motorcycle were Yadea, Luyuan, Tailg, Sunra, Zongshen, Huaihai, Jinyi, Bus New Energy, Lovol and Loncin, which sold 3,347,200 units, 462,500 units, 460,000 units, 321,400 units, 215,300 units, 114,200 units, 75,600 units, 61,000 units, 56,900 units and 39,600 units, respectively.
Export
In August, China’s motorcycle exports reduce significantly month-on-month and year-on-year because of the rapid reduction in overseas demand. Nowadays, the global economic is recovering slowly with uncertain factors. In addition, the production of overseas motorcycle will affect China’s motorcycle exports.
In August, motorcycle exports recorded 598,200 units, a month-on-month decrease of 18.08% and a year-on-year decrease of 16.77%; the export value was USD426 million, down by 14.32% month-on-month and 8.7% year-on-year. Among them, the export of two-wheeled motorcycles was 567,300 units, down by 17.97% month-on-month and 17.64% yea-on-year; the export of three-wheeled motorcycles was 30,900 units, down 20.1% month-on-month and up 3.35% year-on-year.
From January to August, motorcycle manufacturers exported USD4.73 billion of products, up 1.8% year-on-year. The complete motorcycle export was 5,280,100 units, down 10.77% year-o-year; the export value was USD3.686billion, down 0.49% year-on-year. Motorcycle engine export recorded 640,000 units, down 26.89% year-on-year; the export value was USD146 million, up 2.96% year-on-year. ATVs export totaled 273,300 units, down 18.92% year-on-year, and the export value was USD676 million, up 19.42% year-on-year. The export value of motorcycle parts was USD222 million, down 5.41% year-on-year.
From January to August, the top five series of products in export volume were: 125cc series, 150cc series, 110cc series, 250cc series and 50cc series, exporting 1,894,100 million units, 1,282,100 units, 730,800 units, 586,300 units and 226,800 units, respectively. The 125cc series decreased by 3.03%, the 150cc series decreased by 12.73%, the 110cc series decreased by 20.83%, the 250cc series increased by 3.61%, and the 50cc series decreased by 38.6%. From January to August, 4.7201 million of the above five series were exported, accounting for 95% of the total export of two-wheeled motorcycles. The export of three-wheeled motorcycles was 311,500 units, down 8.97% year-on-year.
From January to August, the top ten enterprises in export volume were Loncin, Dachangjiang, Zongshen, Sundiro Honda, Tayo, Lifan, Dechengwei, Dayun, Haojin, and Shaxing, with a total export volumes of 3.3299 million units, accounting for 63.07% of the total motorcycle exports.
Economic benefit
According to the statistics on 87 motorcycle manufacturing enterprises’ monthly economic indicators, from January to July, motorcycle manufacturing enterprises’ industrial output value, industrial sales output value and operating revenue slightly increased compared with the same period last year. From January to July, the total industrial output value of motorcycle manufacturers reached 79.583 billion yuan, up 5.42% year-on-year; the industrial sales output reached 87.232 billion yuan, up 15.69% year-on-year; the industrial added value reached 11.739 billion yuan, up 5.24% year-on-year.
From January to July, the sales-output ratio of motorcycle manufacturers was 109.61%, up 9.73% year-on-year. The operating revenue and total profits showed different degrees of growth. From January to July, motorcycle enterprises achieved operating revenue of 91.371 billion yuan, up 10.37% year-on-year; the total profits reached 5.037 billion yuan, up 64.12% year-on-year, and the total profits and taxes were 7.222 billion yuan, up 66.36% year-on-year.
From January to July, the operating cost of motorcycle enterprises was 78.102 billion yuan, up 9.35 % year-on-year; taxes and surcharges totaled 803 million yuan, up 27.69% year-on-year; sales expenses totaled 2.602 billion yuan, down 5.44% year-on-year; management cost was 3.258 billion yuan, up 2.99% year-on-year; research and development expenses totaled 2.408 billion yuan, up 16.87% year-on-year; financial expenses recorded -442 million yuan, down 324.21% year-on-year. The four expenses totaled 7.825 billion yuan, down 4.24% year-on-year.
