In August, the output of the motorcycle industry in China increased slightly month-on-month, while the sales volume decreased slightly month-on-month. Both output and sales increased slightly year-on-year. Among them, the export volume continued to maintain a good growth momentum, providing strong support for the stable operation of the market in that month. From the cumulative data of January to August, the industry’s operational resilience continued to be evident. The large-displacement leisure and entertainment motorcycles maintained a growth trend, becoming an important growth point for stimulating consumption. At the same time, the export volume continued to increase, promoting the overall stable development of the industry.

Production and sales Situation

In August, the entire industry produced and sold 1.5906 million and 1.5635 million fuel-powered motorcycles respectively. The production increased by 0.37% compared with the previous month, while the sales decreased by 2.18%. The year-on-year growth rates were 11.24% and 12.04% respectively. The production and sales of electric motorcycles were 290,000 and 285,300 respectively. The production and sales increased by 1.30% and 2.03% compared with the previous month, but decreased by 14.60% and 17.44% respectively year-on-year.

In August, the total production of motorcycles was 18.806 million units and 18.488 million units, with a production growth rate of 0.51% and a sales decline rate of 1.55%, respectively. The year-on-year growth rates were 6.28% and 6.19%. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheelers were 16.599 million units and 16.288 million units, with a production growth rate of 0.07% and a sales decline rate of 2.31%, respectively. The production and sales of large-displacement leisure and entertainment motorcycles (displacement above 250cc, excluding 250cc) were 84,300 units and 84,500 units, with a decline rate of 7.47% and 4.39% respectively, and a year-on-year growth rate of 18.30% and 23.60%. The production and sales of three-wheel motorcycles were 2.207 million units and 2.200 million units, with a production and sales growth rate of 3.94% and 4.51% respectively, and a year-on-year growth rate of 0.42% and 0.39%.

From January to August, the entire industry produced and sold 121.962 million and 122.087 million fuel-powered motorcycles respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 12.61% and 13.40%; the production and sales of electric motorcycles were 21.776 million and 21.394 million respectively, with year-on-year decreases of 3.63% and 7.93%. From January to August, a total of 14.3738 million and 14.3481 million motorcycles were sold, with production and sales increasing by 9.80% and 9.61% respectively. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheel motorcycles were 12.7045 million and 12.6750 million respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 10.55% and 10.37%; the production and sales of large-displacement leisure and entertainment motorcycles (displacement above 250cc, excluding 250cc) were 6.859 million and 6.748 million respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 35.22% and 35.92%. The production and sales of three-wheel motorcycles were 16.693 million and 16.731 million respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 4.42% and 4.23%.

From January to August, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang(1,722,400 units), Loncin(1,103,200 units), Zongshen(756,800 units), Tayo(704,700 units), Sundiro-Honda(657,700 units), Yinxiang(459,700 units), Haojin(452,600 units), Dayang(423,900 units), Wuyang-Honda(383,700 units) and Jiangmen Summit(374,800 units).

From January to August, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea Group(702,300 units), Luyuan(301,900 units), Zongshen(295,700 units), CFMOTO(193,500 units), Jiangsu Sunra(166,800 units), Bus New Energy(115,800 units), Huaihai(104,100 units), Lovol(53,200 units), Loncin(48,700 units), and TAIGL(39,800 units).

Export Situation

In August, the export volume of motorcycles reached 1124,200 units, a decrease of 1.99% compared with the previous month and a growth of 20.69% year-on-year; the export value was 759 million US dollars, a decrease of 1.03% compared with the previous month and a growth of 31.24% year-on-year. Among them, the export volume of two-wheel motorcycles was 1074,000 units, a decrease of 1.18% compared with the previous month and a growth of 20.77%; the export volume of three-wheel motorcycles was 50,200 units, a decrease of 16.64% compared with the previous month and a growth of 19.08%.

From January to August, the total export value of products by motorcycle manufacturing enterprises reached 7.162 billion US dollars, increasing by 26.61% year-on-year. The total number of complete vehicles exported was 8.7411 million units, increasing by 23.17% year-on-year, and the export value was 5.796 billion US dollars, increasing by 28.94% year-on-year. The export volume of motorcycle engines was 858,300 units, increasing by 14.17% year-on-year, and the export value was 171 million US dollars, increasing by 5.89% year-on-year. The export volume of off-road vehicles was 312,500 units, decreasing by 0.87% year-on-year, and the export value was 892 million US dollars, increasing by 19.02% year-on-year. The export value of motorcycle components was 302 million US dollars, increasing by 20.93% year-on-year.

From January to August, the top ten motorcycle exporters were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Tayo, Zongshen, Yinxiang, Haojin, Sundiro-Honda, Lifan, Jiangmen Summit, and Bashan. These ten companies exported a total of 5.3632 million motorcycles, accounting for 61.36% of the total motorcycle exports.
