In May, China’s motorcycle production and sales volume decreased month-on-month but increased year-on-year. The scale of foreign trade exports declined slightly month-on-month, but maintained high growth year-on-year. From January to May, the leisure and entertainment large-displacement motorcycle market continue to maintain a high growth trend, and foreign trade exports continued to grow; from the perspective of domestic sales, the Chinese market for fuel motorcycles declined slightly, and electric motorcycles achieved a slight increase. The industry as a whole maintained a steady development trend.

Production and Sales Situation

In May, the industry produced and sold 1.5861 million fuel motorcycles and 1.6091 million units, down 9.27% and 6.18% month-on-month, and up 8.54% and 11.12% year-on-year; the production and sales of electric motorcycles were 261,500 and 267,200 units, down 5.65% month-on-month in production and up 0.45% month-on-month in sales, down 14.88% and 19.33% year-on-year.

In May, the production and sales of motorcycles totaled 1.8476 million and 1.8763 million, down 8.78% and 5.29% month-on-month, and up 4.47% and 5.45% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled vehicles totaled 1.6296 million and 1.6568 million, down 8.88% and 5.14% month-on-month, and up 4.31% and 5.52% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement leisure and entertainment motorcycles (displacement of 250cc and above, excluding 250cc) totaled 100,500 and 101,200, down 17.75% and 16.99% month-on-month, and up 26.1% and 31.09% year-on-year. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles totaled 218,000 and 219,500, down 8.01% and 6.41% month-on-month, and up 5.69% and 4.91% year-on-year.

From January to May, the industry produced and sold 7.3964 million fuel motorcycles and 7.4203 million units, up 15.34% and 16.05% year-on-year; the production and sales  of electric motorcycles were 1.3495 million and 1.3342 million units, with a month-on-month decrease of 5.65% and a month-on-month increase of 0.45%. From January to May, a total of 8.7459 million and 8.7544 million motorcycles were produced and sold, with a year-on-year increase of 13.43% and 13.45%. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 7.11 million and 7.7153 million, with a year-on-year increase of 14.47% and 14.54%; the production and sales of large-displacement leisure and entertainment motorcycles (displacement above 250cc, excluding 250cc) were 405,300 and 399,000, with a year-on-year increase of 52.83% and 50.34%. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 1.0359 million and 1.0392 million, with a year-on-year increase of 6.29% and 5.99%.

From January to May, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang(996,900 units), Loncin(740,000 units), Zongshen(463,200 units), Tayo(410,100 units), Sundiro-Honda(348,500 units), Yinxiang(290,400 units), Haojin(279,900 units), Dayang(259,900 units), Jiangmen Summit(245,000 units), and Wuyang-Honda(222,500 units).

From January to May, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea Group(446,500 units), Luyuan(198,900 units), Zongshen(190,800 units), Jiangsu Sunra(104,400 units), CFMOTO(93,300 units), Huaihai(68,900 units), Bus New Energy(62,900 units), Lovol(34,700 units), Loncin(30,400 units), and TAIGL(25,200 units).

Export Situation

In May, 1.1521 million motorcycles were exported, down 4.07% from the previous month and up 22.15% from the previous year; the export value was $771 million, down 0.8% from the previous month and increased 24.43% from the previous year. Among them, 1.0913 million two-wheeled motorcycles were exported, down 4.46% from the previous month and increased 20.4% from the previous year; 60,800 three-wheeled motorcycles were exported, increased 3.62% from the previous month and increased 65.12% from the previous year.

From January to May, the total export value of motorcycle manufacturing enterprises was $4.284 billion, a year-on-year increase of 27.16%. The export volume of complete vehicles was 5.2804 million, a year-on-year increase of 26.92%, and the export value was $3.461 billion, a year-on-year increase of 29.16%. The export of motorcycle engines was 550,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 19.37%, and the export value was $109 million, a year-on-year increase of 6.98%. The export of beach cars was 173,300 units, a year-on-year increase of 1.18%, and the export value was $519 million, a year-on-year increase of 19.06%. The export value of motorcycle parts was $195 million, a year-on-year increase of 28.69%.

From January to May, the top 10 motorcycle exporting companies were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Tayo, Zongshen, Yinxiang, Haojin, Jiangmen Summit, Sundiro-Honda, Lifan, RATO. The above ten companies exported a total of 3.2607 million units, accounting for 61.75% of the total motorcycle exports.
