Chinese Motorcycle Production And Sales In The First Half Of 2021
In June, the production and sales of motorcycles in China fell slightly from the previous month and increased significantly compared with the same period last year. Domestic sales declined compared with the same period last year, but it still stood at a relatively high level of recent years. The export maintained a high growth trend, driving the overall production and sales growth.
Production & sales
In June, Chinese motorcycle industry completed a total production and sales of 1,671,100 units and 1,666,700 units, with a month-on-month decrease of 1.19% and 0.43%, and a year-on-year increase of 7.71% and 6.16%. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles reached 1,481,300 units and 1,481,300 units, with a month-on-month growth of 1.11% and 2.16%, and a year-on-year growth of 9.21% and 7.91%. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles reached 189,900 units and 185,500 units, down 16.07% and 17.22% from the previous month, and down 2.75% and 6.04% from the same period last year. The production and sales of fuel-powered motorcycles reached 1,344,600 units and 1,341,700 units, down 2.51% and 1.66% from the previous month, and up 9.52% and 8.92% year-on-year. The production and sales of electric motorcycles reached 326,500 units and 325,000 units, up 4.67% and 4.97% from the previous month, with production increasing 0.82% year on year and the sales decreasing 3.9% year on year.

From January to June, the production and sales of Chinese motorcycle industry totaled 9,925,200 units and 9,928,400 units, up 31.24% and 29.91% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles reached 8,728,500 units and 8,737,900 units, up 32.25% and 30.95% year-on-year. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles reached 1,196,700 units and 1,190,400 units, up 24.3% and 22.77% year on year.
In June, among the three major types, the production and sales of standard motorcycles reached 740,700 units and 746,900 units, with a month-on-month decrease of 2.68% and 0.28%, and a year-on-year increase of 9.08% and 10.9%, respectively. The production and sales of scooters were 552,900 units and 552,600 units, with a month-on-month growth of 9.66% and 9.11%, and a year-on-year growth of 7.35% and 2.19%, respectively. The production and sales of cubs were 187,700 units and 181,800 units, with a month-on-month decrease of 5.08% and 5.52%, and a year-on-year increase of 37.88% and 36.25%, respectively.
From January to June, the production and sales of standard bikes reached 4,431,900 units and 4,423,300 units, up 40.6% and 39.44% year-on-year. The production and sales of scooters were 3.117,900 units and 3.140,300 units, up 20.18% and 18.95% year-on-year; The production and sales of cubs were 1.176,600 units and 1.172,400 units, up 37.88% and 36.25% year on year. The sales of standard bikes, scooters and cubs respectively accounted for 50.62%, 35.94% and 13.42% of the total sales of two-wheeled motorcycles.

From January to June, the production and sales of 50cc series reached 434,400 units and 422,500 units, up 52.13% and 46.84% year on year. The production and sales of 110cc series reached 1,034,500 units and 1,021,300 units, with year-on-year growth of 22.13% and 19.41%; The production and sales of 125cc series reached 2,745,900 units and 2,793,000 units, with year-on-year growth of 43.32% and 42.27%; The production and sales of 150cc series reached 1,790,400 units and 1,789,700 units, with year-on-year growth of 42.5% and 40.35%; The production and sales of 250cc series were 635,900 units and 646,100 units, with year-on-year growth of 35.84% and 37.71%.
From January to June, the production and sales of fuel-powered motorcycles reached 7,989,900 units and 8,028,200 units, with year-on-year growth of 36.14% and 35.02%, respectively. The production and sales of electric motorcycles reached 1,935,400 units and 1,900,100 units, up 14.26% and 12% year-on-year.
Between January and June, the top ten enterprises in sales of fuel motorcycles were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Zongshen, Lifan, Dayang, Wuyang-Honda, Yinxiang, Sundiro-Honda, Dayun and Tayo, which respectively sold 1,105,500 units, 654,200 units, 472,300 units, 464,000 units, 404,900 units, 401,000 units, 400,100 units, 395,300 units, 262,700 units and 218,300 units.

From January to June, the top ten enterprises (groups) in sales of electric motorcycles were Yadea, Luyuan, Sunra, Tailg, Zongshen, Jinyi, Huaihai Vehicle, Bus New Energy, Jinan Dalong and Dongfang Lingyun, whose sales were 455,100 units, 338,900 units, 284,600 units, 196,900 units, 186,100 units, 139,200 units, 53,400 units, 49,700 units, 45,700 units and 25,500 units, respectively.

Export
In June, the export of Chinese motorcycles maintained a good trend, with a small month-on-month increase and an obvious year-on-year increase. Benefiting from the good control of the pandemic in China, China’s motorcycle export has maintained a substantial growth for six consecutive months.
In June, the total export volume of motorcycles reached 749,400 units, up 1.02% month-on-month and 40.7% year-on-year. The export value was USD482 million, up 6.11% month-on-month and 58.9% year-on-year. Among them, 707,300 two-wheeled motorcycles were exported, up 0.05% month-on-month and 41.93% year-on-year. 42,200 three-wheeled motorcycles were exported, up 20.5% month-on-month and 22.9% year-on-year.

From January to June, the export value of motorcycle manufacturers reached USD3.403 billion, up 76.43% year on year. The exports of complete motorcycles reached 4.3973 million units, up 58.71% year on year, with an export value of USD2.721 billion, up 70.59% year on year. Motorcycle engine exports amounted to 671,800 units, up 25.19% year on year, with an export value of USD108 million, up 19.66% year on year. The exports of ATVs totaled 214,600 units, up 148.4% year on year, and the export value was USD394 million, up 165.85% year on year. The export value of motorcycle parts was USD180 million, up 89.16% year-on-year.
From January to June, the top five motorcycle series in export volume were the 125cc, 150cc, 110cc, 250cc and 50cc series, reaching 1,470,500, 1,115,400, 678,800, 398,700 and 260,300 units respectively, with year-on-year growth of 59.21%, 67.6%, 41.37%, 62.51% and 65.37%, respectively. From January to June, the exports of the above five series totaled 3,933,600 units, accounting for 94.81% of the total export of two-wheeled motorcycles. The export of three-wheeled motorcycles reached 248,400 units, up 45.66% year on year.
From January to June, the top 10 enterprises in export volume were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Zongshen, Yinxiang, Lifan, Tayo, Sundiro-Honda, Haojin, Dayun, and Bashan. These 10 enterprises exported 2,700,900 units, accounting for 61.42% of the total motorcycle export.

Economic effectiveness
According to the monthly economic indicators reports of 92 motorcycle manufacturing enterprises, from January to May, the industrial output value, industrial sales value, operating income, and total profits of motorcycle manufacturing enterprises all increased compared with the same period last year.
From January to May, the total industrial output value of motorcycle manufacturers reached 50.968 billion yuan, 35.91% higher than that of last year; The industrial sales value reached 51.282 billion yuan, 35.82% higher than that of last year; The industrial added value reached 7.982 billion yuan, up 24.33% year on year.
From January to May, the production and sales ratio of motorcycle manufacturers was 100.62%, down 0.06 percentage points year-on-year.
From January to May, the operating income of motorcycle manufacturers reached 58.118 billion yuan, 41.65% higher than that of last year. The profits totaled 2.120 billion yuan, 37.52% higher than that of last year, and the total profits and taxes were 2.943 billion yuan, 19.64% higher than that of last year.
From January to May, the operating costs of motorcycle manufacturers were 49.571 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 41.65%; Taxes and surcharges reached 393 million yuan, up 28.03% year on year; Sales expenses reached 1.899 billion yuan, up 22.77% year on year; Management expenses reached 2.263 billion yuan, up 2.27% year on year; R&D expenditure was 1.497 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.70%; Financial expenses reached 275 million yuan, up 221.42% year on year.
