Zongshen WEEK8 Test Ride
WEEK8 is a star model of Zongshen in recent years. Previously, it mainly focuses on the export market, and enjoys good market reputation and occupies a large market share in foreign countries. Now, it is sold in the domestic market.
The tested WEEK8 is a new version upgraded to the National IV emission standard. It is designed and developed by an Italian design team and manufactured by the joint-venture factory of Zongshen and Piaggio.
Appearance
Seven colors optional.
The smooth body lines, classic round halogen headlight, and “bullet” turn signals evoke many people’s childhood memories.
Rear spokes hub is almost a standard layout of the retro bike.
The resilient thickened caterpillar hump cushion is instantly recognizable for its retro qualities.
For an 150cc EFI model, the 15L fuel tank is large enough to support urban cruising.
The paint adds to the high quality of the bike.
Different from many retro models that use split handlebars, WEEK8 uses a low one-piece handlebar. Of course, a split handlebar is your refitting option later.
The structure design is relatively simple: steel-tube type flat fork, bilateral airbag shock absorber, aluminum alloy pedals, stainless steel exhaust that making loud and powerful voice, which sounds like that of a single cylinder bike with large displacement.
The vintage and technology designs complement each other, leaving a lot of space for the riders to modify it later.
Configuration
WEEK8 is up to the national IV Emission Standard. Compared with the previous edition, the upgraded dashboard has a full LCD screen, with all riding information indicated.
The maximum power of the previous engine was 8.5kw/8500r, and the maximum torque was 11.5N•m/6500r, while, the new engine generates a maximum power of 8.3kw /8000r, and a maximum torque of 11.4N•m/6500r. There are not much difference between the two versions.
The seat height of 720mm is riding friendly, even for a rider of 150cm.
The brake system adopts front double pump disc brake and rear drum brake. WEEK8 has a small displacement, but the brakes are satisfyingly effective. Unfortunately, an ABS is not installed on the model of the current displacement and price.
Details
A shock absorbing balance hammer is provided at the joint of handlebar and front shock absorber, which can well transfer the road bump from the front wheel to reduce riding fatigue.
The rearview mirror can be adjusted horizontally or vertically, or it can be placed flat and parallel to the handlebar, which is similar to the style of Harley.
The fly in the ointment is that the side kick angle is too upright, which make people feel it easily falls over. It is a little difficult to put the bike on its main stand, which is to say that the lever position of the main stand needs to be readjusted.
Riding experience
WEEK8 is a 150cc retro, with good engine performance. The start feels not so sensitive, but when the speed exceeds 6,500rpm, there comes immense power. Hitting the throttle harder, you can directly feel the advantages of a single cylinder bike.
The engine adjustment is more for the sport characteristics. The engine sound is almost covered by the exhaust sound, which may be unacceptable to some motorcyclists who love roar of the engine.
Weighted 130kg, WEEK8 is easy and flexible to operate. Concerning the sitting and riding triangle, WEEK8’s design seems to give less consideration to riders taller than 170cm.
At first glance, the hump saddle seems to be designed for just one rider, but it actually can carry a passenger. The thick caterpillar saddle is soft and comfortable, and the pillion is stable.
Based on the above, it is not difficult to see that WEEK8 is still oriented to provide basic frame, high modification space and daily short – and medium-distance travel for fun.
Retro elements have regained popularity today. Young people account for a large proportion of retro bike—girls are new fans of retro, and the retro bikes provide the proper seat height for girls. Girls always look bright and brave while riding a retro bike. With its good looks, light body, and proper seat height, WEEK8 is not exclusively made for men. You will see a lady riding a WEEK8 one day.
