According to statistics from the China Chamber of Commerce for Motorcycle (CCCM), In September, China’s market demand for fuel motorcycles was lower than in previous years, with sales declining month-on-month but maintaining year-on-year growth. Electric motorcycles increased significantly month-on-month, but still declined year-on-year. From January to September, the foreign trade export of fuel motorcycles continued to grow, which significantly supported the industry, with a slow growth rate. There is an obvious downward domestic market demand with the increasing market pressure.

Production & Sales

In September, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 1.2021 million and 1.2219 million units, a month-on-month decrease of 7.16% and 4.79%, and a year-on-year increase of 1.47% and 2.78%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 508,400  and 489,500 units, output increased by 15.94% and 12.04% month-on-month, and decreased by42.42% and 45.97% year-on-year. The entire industry produced and sold a total of 1.7105 million and 1.7115 million motorcycles in September,a month-on-month decrease of 1.31% and 0.52%, and a year-on-year decrease of 17.27% and 18.3%. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) produced and sold 44,400 and 50,200 units, a month-on-month decrease of 13.08% in production and a month-on-month increase of 5.46% in sales, and a year-on-year decrease of 29.3% in production and 23.82% in sales.

From January to September, fuel motorcycle production and sales were 10.7277 million and 10.7711 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.54% and 1.45%. Electric motorcycle production and sales were 4.3532 million and 3.9483 million units, a year-on-year decrease. 29.07% and 36.27%. From January to September, the entire industry produced and sold a total of 15.081 million and 14.7194 million motorcycles, down 9.15% and 12.45% year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of two-wheeled motorcycles were 13.3265 million and 12.9635 million, down 10.36% and 13.97% year-on-year. The production and sales of large-displacement recreational motorcycles (displacement >250CC) were 396,200 and 408,600, down 10.6% and 10.55% year-on-year, respectively. The production and sales of three-wheeled motorcycles were 1.7545 million and 1.7559 million units, a year-on-year increase of 1.19% and 0.69%.

From January to September, the top 10 fuel motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Dachangjiang (1.4317 million units), Loncin (908,300 units), Zongshen (632,200 units), Sundiro-Honda (581,000 units), Dayang (504,600 units), Wuyang-Honda (469,000 units), Tayo (428,900 units), Yinxiang (393,700 units), Dayun (368,600 units), and Qingqi Suzuki (332,400 units).

From January to September, the top 10 electric motorcycle sales companies (groups) were Yadea (1.879 million units), Luyuan (497,300 units), Tailg (463,600 units), Sunra (312,800 units), Zongshen (289,600 units), Huaihai (136,900 units), Bus New Energy (93,200 units), Jinyi (74,400 units), Lovol (48,000 units), and Loncin (35,400 units).

Export Situation

In September, China’s motorcycle exports declined month-on-month, with a year-on-year significant increase. There is a slight increase in cumulative export volume from January to September. However, the export value still declined due to the impact of exchange rate changes. Generally speaking, China’s motorcycle exports are in a good condition.

In September, 721,800 motorcycles were exported, a month-on-month decrease of 6.34% and a year-on-year increase of 16.26%; the export value was US$451 million, a month-on-month decrease of 6.59% and a year-on-year decrease of 1.07%. Among them, 686,600 two-wheeled motorcycles were exported, a decrease of 7.77% month-on-month and an increase 15.62% year-on-year; 35,200 three-wheeled motorcycles were exported, an increase of 34.1% month-on-month and 30.49% year-on-year.

From January to September, the total export volume of motorcycle manufacturers was US$5.194 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.96%, with the decline to narrow. The export volume of complete vehicles was 6.1454 million units, a year-on-year increase of 4.03%, and the export value was US$4.126 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 0.48%. Motorcycle engine exports were 719,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 3.15%, and the export value was US$154 million, a year-on-year decrease of 4.29%. The export volume of ATVs was 276,300 units, a year-on-year decrease of 8.63%, and the export value was US$661 million, a year-on-year decrease of 11.33%. The export value of motorcycle parts was US$253 million, a year-on-year increase of 3.33%.

From January to September, the top 10 motorcycle exporting companies were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Tayo, Zongshen, Sundiro-Honda, Yinxiang, Haojin, Dayun, Lifan, and Sanyang. The above 10 companies exported a total of 3.5887 million units, accounting for 58.4% of total motorcycle exports.
