On June 19, the 2024 China Wuxi Overseas Cooperation of Electric Vehicle Industry High-Quality Development Forum & Procurement Matchmaking Conference, themed “Dual Carbon Intelligent Manufacturing, Electric Vehicles Going Overseas,” was successfully held in Wuxi.

Strong Alliance to Drive Xishan Electric Vehicle Enterprises to Seize Overseas Markets Together

President Zhang Yujing pointed out that since CCCME and the People’s Government of Xishan District signed a strategic cooperation agreement last year, the two sides have carried out comprehensive cooperation to promote Xishan’s electric vehicle industry in expanding into the international market. As a key activity of the cooperation between the two sides in 2024, this conference relies on Xishan District’s National Foreign Trade Transformation and Upgrading Base to build an important platform for enterprises across the entire industry chain to explore the international market, showcase the latest technologies, and deepen supply chain cooperation. President Zhang stated that the Chamber of Commerce will work together with Xishan District to promote Xishan’s electric vehicles to reach a new level in going overseas.

In his speech, District Head Gu Wenhao said that Xishan is an important birthplace of China’s electric vehicle industry and the country’s largest production base for complete electric vehicles. After years of development, Xishan has formed a dense industrial cluster, gathering industry leaders such as YADEA, SUNRA, and TAILG, and is expected to become Xishan’s first landmark industrial cluster with revenue exceeding RMB 100 billion. This conference fully implements the decisions and arrangements of the central and provincial governments, accelerates the development of “cross-border e-commerce + industrial belt,” and is an important measure for Xishan to integrate into the new development pattern of “dual circulation” at home and abroad and seize the new opportunities brought by the entry into force of RCEP. It is also an important vehicle for accelerating the joint efforts of electric vehicle enterprises to seize overseas markets and enhance the international competitiveness and influence of Xishan’s intelligent manufacturing. He hopes that participating enterprises will take this opportunity to have in-depth exchanges and close connections with major buyers, form more export orders, and promote Xishan’s electric vehicle industry exports to a new level.

Multiple Authoritative Electric Vehicle Export Data Disclosed, Broad Prospects for Electric Vehicles Going Overseas

In her keynote speech on “Analysis of the International Market for Electric Two-Wheelers,” Yang Tong, Secretary General of CCCME’s Two-Wheeler Branch, stated that global demand for two-wheelers is slowly recovering but still faces challenges brought by the international situation. The demand for electric two-wheelers is increasing year by year, showing a good growth trend, and enterprises have a strong desire to go overseas, making breakthroughs in exploring the international market. She shared multiple data points on China’s electric vehicle exports.

In 2023, China’s electric two-wheeler exports amounted to USD 4.56 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 14.2%; the export volume was 15.046 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 6.6%; and the average unit price was USD 302.9. Among them, Jiangsu Province exported USD 954 million, accounting for 20.94% of the national total; the export volume was 2.3629 million units, accounting for 15.7% of the national total, with an average unit price of USD 403.8.

The top 20 countries for China’s electric vehicle exports are: the United States, the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Russia, Indonesia, India, Australia, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Spain, the Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Italy. Uzbekistan, Russia, and Turkey showed the most significant year-on-year growth.

From January to April 2024, China’s electric two-wheeler exports amounted to USD 1.603 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%; the export volume was 5.332 million units, a year-on-year increase of 33.2%; and the average unit price was USD 300.7. The main export countries were Turkey, the United States, Germany, India, and Spain.

President Sun stated that since its establishment in 2022, the association has actively carried out overseas market expansion work, led Xishan District enterprises to participate in overseas exhibitions in groups, and provided services such as overseas policies and regulations and technical training. As an enterprise that has been deeply engaged in the export of two-wheelers for more than 20 years, Zhongxing Motorcycle’s products cover both fuel-powered and electric vehicles, with its main export markets being Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America. In the future, the enterprise will adhere to independent research and development to meet the needs of the global market with differentiated products and seize the opportunity to go overseas.

Currently, Xishan District’s electric vehicle enterprises have set up more than 1,800 overseas sales outlets in more than 40 countries around the world, established more than 20 production bases in more than 10 countries, and deployed 14 overseas warehouses in 9 countries. The process of Xishan’s electric vehicles going overseas has officially started.

During the conference, Zhang Yujing and Gu Wenhao jointly unveiled the plaque for the China Two-Wheel Electric Vehicle Cross-Border Overseas Cooperation Demonstration Base, which will focus on more than ten areas of cooperation such as overseas exhibitions, inspection and exchange, international procurement, and resource attraction to promote the high-quality development of Wuxi’s electric vehicle industry going overseas.

At the same time, the conference also awarded CCCME’s outstanding exhibitors at overseas exhibitions, electric vehicle international well-known brands at the provincial and municipal levels, and the top ten export enterprises of electric vehicles and parts in Xishan District.

It is worth mentioning that in the offline matchmaking session for buyers at this conference, 32 representatives of professional electric vehicle buyers from 21 major export countries, including the United States, Italy, Brazil, Indonesia, and Mexico, had face-to-face in-depth exchanges with the heads and foreign trade managers of 60 electric vehicle enterprises in Xishan District, and the atmosphere at the scene was enthusiastic. With precise matching and resource sharing, the international procurement docking platform built by the conference for Xishan’s electric vehicle enterprises achieved excellent results. Helping enterprises to accelerate the development of potential markets such as South America and Turkey, and accelerating the process of Xishan’s electric vehicles going overseas.

The successful holding of this conference not only marks a new starting point for Wuxi’s electric vehicle industry to move towards the global market but also demonstrates the important position of China’s electric vehicle industry in the global market.
