Embracing The Motorcycle’s EFI Era
In 2011, the motorcycle industry entered the National III Emission Standard era. By 2019, we have witnessed that the National III Emission standard has brought huge impetus to the whole industry – from R&D to sales, from macro to micro. On July 1, 2019, China’s fourth national emission standard for motorcycles was officially implemented. The new emission standard will also bring impact and impetus to the industry in many aspects.
Technically, different from the National III era, National IV has a greater impact on the industry on the technical level – to meet the environmental emission standards, eliminate the carburetor technology, motorcycle entering the comprehensive EFI era.
In terms of regulation, the industry association has communicated with the MIIT, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other ministries and departments, and the regulation on environmental protection and emission standards in the motorcycle industry will be increasingly strict, which will lead to polarization of the motorcycle industry: the compliant and responsive manufacturers will actively upgrade their products and technology to be even stronger on the market, while many others will be gradually eliminated from the market.
However, the shift from National III to National IV cannot be completed only by policy and technology updating. The subsequent market switching is also important.
When it comes to market switching, it will test the ability of dealers to digest National III inventory and help consumers changing their consumption concept. Looking at the whole industry, it is very rare that dealers can realize zero inventory of National III products. Many dealers registered a large number of National III models before July 1, and sold them together with National IV models after July 1.
On the contrary, consumers are faced with a multiple choice question: from July 1, the sales of National III models stop, and the purchase tax is exempted for models under 150mL (including 150ml), so do they buy the remaining lower-priced registered National III models or the slightly expensive but tax-free National IV models?
From the industry perspective, National IV is the general trend and will inevitably replace National III. Under the new trend, National IV policy will promote the re-development of the whole industry. From the perspective of enterprises, National IV brings a very good opportunity. Leveraging this opportunity, quickly updating the National IV product profile, the enterprises will come out top in the industry. From a personal point of view, if we choose National IV products, it means that we have chosen a higher technological content, we accept the up-to-date concept of consumption, and we fully support the implementation of the new national policy, to which we have unshirkable responsibility.
