On September 28, the inaugural meeting of Xishan Electric Vehicle International Trade Association with the theme of “Cohesion on Double Carbon and Going to the Overseas Market Together” was successfully held in Xishan District, Wuxi, China. Xishan District is an electric vehicle industry cluster with more than 100 electric vehicle manufacturers and over 400 supporting enterprises. The export amount of finished vehicles exceeds 200 million dollars, and the annual output of finished vehicles exceeds 12 million, accounting for 40% of the national electric vehicle output. The establishment of Xishan Electric Vehicle International Trade Association has far-reaching significance for Wuxi City and even for China’s electric vehicle industry.

Sun Muchu was elected the first Association President and Ni Xiaofeng, Yang Xun,Wu Xiufeng and Sheng Xiaolan were elected as the first vice presidents. Shen Yu was elected Secretary-general of the Association.

Lu Xiaobo: The electric vehicle industry is one of the four industrial clusters that Xishan is building, and it would be expected to become the first landmark industry cluster with a revenue of over 100 billion in the future. The International trade connects both domestic and international markets and resources. During the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the electric vehicle industry would be in a period of great demand at home market and abroad market, the upgrading consumption and updated technology. Its establishment would be an important starting point for us to actively integrate into the new domestic and international “dual cycle” development pattern and seize the new opportunity for RCEP to take effect. important carrier of influence. It is also an important carrier for electric vehicle enterprises to seize the overseas market together and enhance the influence of Xishan Manufacturing’s international competitiveness.

Around the millennium, electric vehicles relayed motorcycles to become the first choice for convenient travel with the implementation of the “motorcycle ban”. From 2003 to 2013, China’s electric vehicles experienced a 10-year rapid development. So far, people’s demand for electric vehicles is still increasing. According to relevant data, the output of electric vehicles in China reached 55 million in 2021, and has maintained a steady growth perennially.

“China’s Electric vehicle industry relies on Jiangsu and Jiangsu electric vehicle industry relies on Wuxi.” Wuxi is the earliest industrial cluster city in China thanks to its motorcycle production base. However, due to the implementation of “motorcycle prohibition order”, many enterprises were forced to transform, gradually shut down their motorcycle production lines and turned to production of electric vehicles. At the initial stage of development, Wuxi electric vehicle industry also experienced disorder, chaos and excessive competition, etc. But the rectification and guidance of Wuxi Municipal Government, Xishan Government, industry and commerce and other market supervision departments has curbed the spread of fake and inferior products, and the electric vehicle industry was developed as a local key pillar industry. Enterprises were encouraged to carry out brand building work, expand international market and conduct technological innovation activities. Now, Xishan, Wuxi City has gradually formed an electric vehicle industry chain with Yadi, Xinri, Aima, TAILG, Xiaodao, Jinjian and other leading automobile enterprises as the core, and upstream and downstream supporting enterprises such as controllers, shock absorbers, frames, motors, hubs, and plastic parts cooperating nearby.

On the one hand, with the continuous improvement and development of electric vehicle technology, China’s electric vehicle products become more and more competitive in the international market. On the other hand, with the introduction of the new national standard policy for electric vehicles in 2019, electric motorcycles and electric bicycles were managed by relevant competent departments for motorcycles and bicycles respectively, resulting in a dilemma for electric vehicle enterprises to compete with not only traditional bicycle enterprises but also motorcycle enterprises, which gradually narrowed the domestic electric vehicle market. After the electric motorcycles were included in the motorcycle management, they are limited by the number of licenses. Vehicles under national standards are seriously impacted by price competition, and in the future electric vehicle enterprises will face fiercer competition in the domestic market. “Going to the overseas market” is not only a need for objective survival, but also a forward-looking decision to take precautions. This measure is a company’s prediction of the market, and also an inevitable choice for the industry to adapt to the changes of the times.

The establishment of Xishan Electric Vehicle International Trade Association has positively responded to the “Belt and Road” intersection construction, so it can effectively deal with trade frictions, strengthen brand international development of electric vehicle enterprises, and escort electric vehicle enterprises going to the overseas market. This will provide strategic support and policy guidance for electric vehicle manufacturers in Wuxi and even in China to truly go global.
