CYCLONE RT2 REVIEW
Scooters have a lot of congenital advantages over traditional standard bikes, such as large storage space, easy handling, riding comfort and so on. In the scooter family, medium and large scooter are flourishing, so many manufacturers got involved in this field. Cyclone is no exception. But unlike other manufacturers, Cyclone has only been working on the RT3 for so many years, studying it thoroughly, and introducing many different configurations to meet the needs of various types of consumers.
Not long ago, Cyclone finally launched its second medium- to large-sized scooter – Cyclone RT2. If the RT3 is a comfort scooter that can go 500km, then the RT2 will be a boon for those who haven’t have the opportunity and time to go out for a long time and want to experience the fun of medium scooter riding. This should be the reason why Cyclone, which has been continuously operating the RT3 family for so many years, launched the RT2.
You may think RT2 is RT3 in a different shell for the first sight. In fact, RT3 has a wheelbase of 1545mm, while RT2 is 1400mm. There is no significant relationship between the two except sharing the powertrain and some parts. The frame and shock absorbers have to be redesigned and adjusted. Therefore, RT2 is a new product created by Cyclone based on RT3’s years of experience.
Officially RT2 is defined as the next generation of urban sports scooter, emphasizing two keywords: next generation and sports. RT2 did not follow the current trend of ADV scooters, but broke a new path to combine ADV and sports features.
The front “duck-beak” aerodynamic layout borrows some of the ADV scooter elements, but the diving front shape and the fierce Hawk-eye 4-lens LED headlight show sports features.
It has a very tough line design, and relies on a large amount of aerodynamic simulation analysis, repeated to achieve the maximum reduction of wind resistance.
The design style of dual taillights is rare in many vehicles of the same type, which is highly recognizable. In addition, RT2 also adopts an aggressive barrel muffler, a good match with the overall tough style, providing mellow sound waves. It is worth noting that the RT2 muffler is made of rust and corrosion-resistant 409 stainless steel .
With next-gen design out of the way, let’s see if this vehicle lives up to its official sporty claims.
First, it is clear that the 1400mm wheelbase will bring positive impact on the vehicle’s sports performance. Because of RT2’s short wheelbase, the turning radius reaches 2.25m, and the control is very flexible. RT2 can easily handle the urban commuting scenes. In addition, the 27-degree castor angle and the 102mm outreach make the vehicle more sporty.
RT2 also uses the high-strength lightweight wheel hub usually seen on large sports scooters, with fine spokes design. The front 14-inch and rear 13-inch wheels are also in line with the extreme sports style. With the semi-hot melt vacuum sports tires, RT2 can achieve the best grip in the temperature above 30 degrees.
The power delivered to the tires is provided by a 250cc single-cylinder water-cooled four-valve engine jointly developed by Cyclone and Daelim. It is reported that the global sales of this engine has reached 100,000 units. In the case of RT2, the engine underwent a new movement adjustment, with optimized valve mechanism, resulting in a maximum power of 17kW /7500rpm, a maximum torque of 22.5nm/6500rpm, and the 0-50km/h acceleration time of 3.4 seconds.
To “restrain” the strong acceleration ability of RT2, Cyclone equipped it with the front 270mm and rear 220mm double disc brakes, supplemented by double channel ABS. The 35mm-diameter front shock absorber and 5-section adjustable rear shock absorber also provide excellent support..
In addition, the main frame is a high-strength trellis frame made of Q235 high quality carbon steel. It is welded by 5-axis robots to have beautiful surface.
The RT2’s 770mm seat height is what most people want. It has humanized designs such as keyless startup while retaining the mechanical key.
RT2 also uses the fifth generation of high-gloss full-color LCD meter, which has excellent reading resolution even under the midday sun because of its high contrast.
In terms of engine performance, RT2 and RT3 are completely different models. If RT3 is calm and heavy, then RT2 is light and smart. In the test ride, the range of RT2 is more than 400 kilometers, including national roads, highways and crowded urban roads. Such endurance performance must be inseparable from the 12.6 liter fuel tank capacity.
To conclude, the key words of next generation and sports have been well interpreted by the manufacturer on RT2. With the guide price of 20,800 yuan, RT2 is bound to shake the whole domestic medium and large scooter field. For consumers who want to buy a 250cc scooter, RT2 is worth a try.
