According to statistics from the China Motorcycle Commerce Association, a favourable trend is evident in the motorcycle industry in May, with four consecutive months of month-on-month growth in foreign trade exports, and a relatively high level of monthly exports for two consecutive months. Driven by exports, the sales volume of gasoline motorcycles saw a slight month-on-month increase. From January to May, the cumulative decrease in production and sales of gasoline motorcycles continued to narrow, foreign trade exports continued to improve, domestic sales slightly increased, and the motorcycle industry as a whole continued the recovery development trend.

Production and sales situation:

According to the Commerce Association, in May, the industry completed the production and sales of 1.2809 million and 1.289 million gasoline motorcycles, with a month-on-month increase of 1.58% and 1.1% and a year-on-year increase of 5.31% and 6.96% respectively. The production and sales of electric motorcycles were 393,800 and 318,600, with a month-on-month decrease of 9.62% and 8.19% and a year-on-year decrease of 38% and 52.17% respectively.

From January to May, the industry completed the production and sales of 5.6218 million and 5.6884 million gasoline motorcycles, with a year-on-year decrease of 0.52% and 0.91% respectively. The production and sales of electric motorcycles were 2.6711 million and 2.3306 million, with a year-on-year decrease of 8.4% and 21.37% respectively.

From January to May, the top ten enterprises (groups) in terms of gasoline motorcycle sales were Dachangjiang, Loncin, Zongshen, Sundiro-Honda, Dayang, Wuyang-Honda, Tayo, Yinxiang, Dayun, and Qingqi Suzuki, selling 770,100, 384,500, 329,200, 321,500, 255,400, 251,500, 234,500, 203,300, 198,900, and 193,300 units respectively.

From January to May, the top ten enterprises (groups) in terms of electric motorcycle sales were Yadea, Luyuan, Tailg, Sunra, Zongshen, Huaihai, Bus New Energy, Jinyi, Lovol, and Loncin, selling 1.198 million, 283,900, 255,400, 175,700, 149,400, 76,400, 45,200, 36,500, 23,800, and 20,100 units respectively.

Export situation:

In May, motorcycle exports saw four consecutive months of month-on-month growth, a significant year-on-year increase, and a high level of monthly exports. From January to May, the cumulative export decrease continued to narrow, with a clear trend of improving foreign trade exports for motorcycles.

In May, 755,200 motorcycles were exported, an increase of 5.42% month-on-month and 18.05% year-on-year. The export amount was $531 million, an increase of 9.2% month-on-month and 20.73% year-on-year.

From January to May, the total export amount of motorcycle manufacturers’ products was $2.736 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 5.11%, and the decrease narrowed significantly. The total export volume was 3.0905 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 5.05%, and the export amount was $2.15 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 5.85%.

From January to May, the top six series in export volume were: the 125 series, 150 series, 110 series, 200 series, 50 series, and 250 series, exporting 973,200, 836,200, 418,400, 246,100, 185,600, and 122,300 units respectively.

From January to May, the top ten companies in terms of motorcycle export volume were: Loncin, Dachangjiang, Zontes, Zongshen, Sundiro-Honda, Haojin, Yinxiang, Shaxing, Dayun, and KTM. These ten companies collectively exported 1.7697 million units, accounting for 57.26% of the total motorcycle exports.

Economic performance:

According to the monthly economic indicators of 88 motorcycle manufacturers nationwide, from January to April, the total industrial output, industrial sales output, and business income of motorcycle manufacturers have all increased compared to the same period last year, with a significant increase in total profits and the growth rate of total profits compared to the same period last year.
