SPORTS TOURING BIKE JEDI 750 REVIEW
Jedi Motor released its large-displacement models Jedi 750 (JD750-B) (49,800 yuan) and FR750 (43,800 yuan), which are respectively positioned as road touring and modern retro street bikes.
With more than 40 years of motorcycle production history, Jedi’s police/business motorcycles take a large share of the domestic market. Jedi is a very strong comprehensive manufacturing enterprise. From 2016, the Jedi brand was formally established and entered the civilian motorcycle market. In 2018, a new factory was built in Jinan High-tech Zone according to the Industry 4.0 standards and put into use. Up to now, Jedi has put into production 250cc, 300cc, 320cc, 500cc, 750cc engines and vehicles. A large number of police products have been equipped to relevant police. Civilian products are gradually put on the market.
Jedi knows that the civilian and police product markets are two completely different directions, especially for the large displacement sport models such as JD750-B. The appearance, configuration and price of the product are important factors affecting consumers’ purchase.
To this end, Jedi adopts a cautious strategy to put the products into police use first (compared with civilian use, the frequency and intensity of police vehicles are higher, which is more likely to expose problems and test the performance), and then listen to the suggestions and feedback of users to continuously upgrade (enlarge the fuel tank, optimize exterior parts and upgrade instruments).
From the first appearance of the JD750-B in 2021 to the official launched into the market in 2022, the JD750-B has matured.
Positioning
From the perspective of size (length * width * height 2220*875*1260mm) and appearance style, JD750-B is a typical GT (GrandTourer) model. Such motorcycles offer long-ride comfort and abundant power on on paved road. To have better wind resistance effect and high-speed riding stability, they tend to have a wide body and a long wheelbase.
JD750-B had a big wrapped head. The integrated LED headlight make the whole front face look full of future technology. The appearance is unique and elegant.
The 17-inch front and rear wheels, high curved handlebar, 780mm high seat, and wide and thick saddle, all ensure the long time riding comfort of Jedi 750. It looks exactly a traditional luxury sports touring bike.
Jedi 750’s competitive advantages
Before JD750-B, Benelli 600GS and CFMoto 650GT-R, at the same price level, occupied most of the domestic sports cruiser market. So what are Jedi 750’s advantages?
JD750-B has certain advantages in price and configuration. The nearly 10000 yuan price difference makes JD750-B have a stronger cost performance ratio. It also has a more advanced and practical full color TFT LCD meter. However, the 18L tank volume and the manually adjustable windshield are slightly less favorable.
Selling points
Aluminum double-wing frame: A good frame is the foundation for excellent vehicle control. The JD750-B is made of domestic advanced low-pressure casting aluminum alloy, which is the first of its kind in domestic models. Note that the JD750-B has currently the world’s only cast magnesium aluminum alloy frame (not-welded).
The frame and rear flat fork are at ceiling level in the industry. The overall weight of the frame is only 9.3kg, and the rear flat fork is 7.2kg, which greatly reduces the body weight and provides a prerequisite for handling. This is also an implicit advantage compared with models of the same level. The 223kg curb weight is the lightest among models of the same level, which is only close to a 500cc street bike.
The aluminum alloy frame also provides extreme stability and can absorb the vibration caused by engine operation to the greatest extent. This is the reason why many flagship sports models of international brands adopt this frame structure.
Track gene engine: In a strict sense, the Jedi 750 is not a purely domestic product, because its appearance design and engine development involve foreign teams. The dual-cylinder water-cooled eight-valve engine, with an actual displacement of 730.4cc, is jointly developed by Jedi and the Swiss “SUTER”.
SUTER, specializing in the research and development of high-performance racing bikes such as MotoGP and TT, has integrated a lot of racing technology into this engine, such as the high compression ratio of 12.5:1, which should be one of the highest compression ratio in domestic motorcycles. With a maximum power of 50.5 kW and a maximum torque of 67N.m, the JD750-B is matched with Bosch’s electric injection system, providing good throttle response.
Excellent rich configurations: Front and rear KYB shock absorbers, a full set of Brembo brake components, keyless start, original heating handlebar, Pirelli GT tires, and original fender guard. There is even space reserved for the installation of riding recorder and audio.
Riding experience
The overall engine vibration is well suppressed. 6000rpm is an obvious cut-off point–from 6000rpm to 10000rpm, there is dense low-frequency vibration at the tank, which gradually intensifies as the rev increases .
Considering the positioning of the Jedi 750, keeping the rev around 5000rpm is a very comfortable and reasonable range. Compared with the same level models, Jedi 750’s low-torque performance is better.
80km/h in the first gear and 100km/h in the second can basically deal with urban commuting. It is claimed to have a top speed of 208km/h.
The adjustable front and rear KYB damping is more for sports riding than comfort. It can give you enough confidence when riding violently, especially in curves. However, when crossing pits at high speeds, the shock will be more obvious.
Handling and corner performance
Compared with other competing models, handling is also a big advantage of the JD750-B. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is close to a 400-500cc street bike in the control sense. Two-wing aluminum alloy frame + sports-oriented shock absorber = excellent handling performance. The steering is deliberately made flexible to give the rider more confidence. But I have my reservations about that. Too flexible steering at high speeds isn’t always a good thing. Jedi 750 provides a very broad riding triangle to meet the needs of users of different heights for long-term riding comfort.
Pros
- Intuitive and reasonableinstrument UI design, simple operation
- Good heat resistance effect on the engine
- Superior configuration, bettercost performance
- Excellent handling performance
Cons
- Inadequatefuel tank, thus short range
- Color scheme can be furthered enriched
- Lack anelectric windshield
