How Does TARO Explorer TR300T (Export Edition) Performed?
Since the launch of TARO Explorer TR300T, its appearance and power have been widely recognized by domestic motorcyclists, but some have complained about the details. How about the quality of the export edition? Let’s take a look at the latest TARO Explorer TR300T introduced to Spain and promoted in Europe by the Spanish importer Wottan. The imported model’s name is Wottan Storm/S 300.
Appearance & details
Wottan Storm/S 300 is a brand-new
mid-sized scooter in Spain. The company has made great promotion efforts as they take it as one of the main products to compete with other big brands.
The name of Wottan Storm/S 300
connotes the meaning of swift and violent storm. The sharp body integrates sports and GT elements, which has followed the world’s mainstream design trends. The plastic panel paint and button quality is much better than Storm 125. The double LED headlights embedded in the huge front fairing look as invigorative as a warrior.
The 5-inch full-color TFT meter has two display modes (daytime and night), with analog tachometer, speedometer and various warning lights signs on the two sides, informative and full of high-tech feeling.
The integral seat is slender with thick cushion and is provided with a small backrest. This kind of saddle reduces seat height while ensuring comfort. The seat is equipped with side edge and central support, which makes the scooter look large but be easy to lift the body.
In addition, although there is plenty of space on both sides of the inner baffle of the front fairing, there is no glove box, diminishing the practicability.
The space under the saddle is large enough to hold two helmets and sundries, where there is also lighting and a USB charging port.
Dynamic performance
The rider’s upper body can keep upright due to the high handlebar, and he can put his feet on the side platform or on the back of the front baffle. The riding posture is comfortable.
The small windscreen is not as effective as that on a large ADV, but it can drain most of the strong wind to the top of the helmet.
When the scooter runs idle, the body shakes. When the rider sits on the scooter, the shake decreases. The power output is slightly delayed at starting, and the output at the middle and high revs is relatively linear. It achieves a maximum power of 19.5kW (26.5 HP) and a maximum torque of 23N·m at 8,000rpm. When cruising at high speed, the engine is relatively quiet. The top speed can be up to 120km/h.
When commuting in the city, the huge body shows enough flexibility, and the steering angle is enough. The body’s wet weight is controlled at 177kg. The under-saddle space can accommodate many items.
The front suspension, with a 37mm telescopic fork, is harder, which ensures sports and cornering performance but reduces riding comfort of a GT scooter. If riding across rough roads or at high speeds, the front fork response is too sensitive and cannot be adjusted. The rear suspension adopts double-tube spring shock absorber with auxiliary air bottle (preload, adjustable).
Braking performance is one of the advantages of Storm/S 300. The front braking system adopts 260mm double discs with 4 piston radial calipers, with standard ABS. The rear brake is a 230mm disc with single piston caliper and ABS. The braking force is gradually enhanced with ABS intervening at proper timing to guarantee brake performance.
Conclusion
Advantages of Wottan Storm/S includes attractive appearance; immense power (27hp)—although the output is slow at initial acceleration, the overall dynamic performance is satisfactory and the vibration suppression is good; excellent braking performance.
Drawbacks: vibration at idle running; hard front suspension.
Generally, the overall performance of Storm/S is impressive. It will be a very cost-effective middleweight scooter if improving on a few more details.
